“Simply amazing customer service - hospitality at its best”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

The hotel is superb, we chose the Shangri La from recommendations on trip advisor and our guidebooks to make sure we picked a great location and a touch of luxury during our Australian trip. All the reviews and research paid off and we were overwhelmed by the hospitality received.

Our room had a great view of the Sydney Harbour with the famous Opera house and circular quay. For three of us travelling we opted for a sofa bed at an extra surcharge which fitted neatly in the sofa/tv wing of the room and still had lots of room left.

The hotel is right in the Rocks area which is a charming part of Sydney, make sure you visit the market if you are staying over a weekend, the tasty pizzas of the Australian Heritage Hotel around the corner and the excellent value at the Scarlett restaurant, notwithstanding trying all the great eateries on site. We enjoyed the starter buffet at the Café Mix and the cocktails and the sunset at the Blu Bar. We also enjoyed the pool and spa area - very relaxing. As an added bonus they were filming Masterchef for the next Australian series during our stay too! As fans of the UK series, this was a nice little extra.

Unfortunately one of us was taken ill during the stay. The hotel could not have been more helpful and understanding at what became an extremely stressful time. In particular the hotel manager, Loa Menon was simply outstanding. It is the last thing you expect to happen on holiday and her support and assistance to us was amazing and unfaltered.

As an advocate of smaller hotel chains and boutique accommodation, I rarely opt for the larger chains as I often feel they lack the personal touch. However, Shangri La have simply changed my mind and without a doubt I would recommend them again and again. Their customer service was second to none and their support to my family was unconditional. We are hoping to make another visit to Shangri La soon.

Room Tip: A harbour view is a must.

Stayed in a 'Grand Harbour View room' over the weekend. Yes it was a nice room but i was expecting some 'wow' factor for a room that costs over $400 per night!! The views of the opera house and bridge were nothing spectacular especially from the 5th floor and the windows are tinted so you dont get the real picture!!

Very dissapointed and wouldnt waste my money again at this place! Ive had friends stay at other hotels in the area with better views at a much lower price!

I agree to an extent with other reviews that say it is probably more suited as a business hotel. However, it is well located for the delightful Rocks area and Circular Quay. It is seriously expensive now in Australia and this hotel is no exception. In some areas such as housekeeping staff appeared scarce possibly because labour is not easy to recruit and is costly.
The Leisure facilities are modest in size, although this would not be uncommon say in other city hotels e.g. London. It is after all, not a resort.
For those travellers familiar with Asian Shangri – La hotels this one does not offer quite the same ambience. That said the staff are pleasant and helpful whilst the quality of food and service is good. It is beneficial to select the Horizon Club option, it has amazing harbour views and attentive staff overseen by the club manager Sabina who is very efficient, extremely helpful and “tuned in” to meeting guest expectations. Finally, would I return on my next trip to Sydney? -yes overall it ticks a lot of boxes.

We usually stay in this chain of hotels - good service and excellent appointment of rooms and facilities. This hotel is right in the historical rocks area of Sydney, which is good and good to be close to the harbor ferries. A first class stay here.

We stayed here for 1 night for our 1st anniversary. The best thing about the stay was the Premier Grand Harbour Room with a superb view. Its amazing to see Sydney from dusk to dawn. We celebrated with dinner in the restaurant which is very good. Our package includes breakfast and secured parking as well - which was a bonus. The rooms are bit outdated and they need to be renovated. Bed is very comfortable. Check in was pretty simple. Book this hotel for a view.

Room Tip: Premier Grand Harbour Room - Its worth the extra cost

We have recently returned from a trip to Australia and stayed for 2 nights at the Shangri-La Hotel. We were offered an upgrade to a room with a view of Circular Quay and although $65 a night for the upgrade it was worth every cent! I could quite easily have stayed in the room for our entire stay and just watched the comings and goings of the ferries, the traffic on the Harbour Bridge, the folks climbing the bridge and the view of the Opera House, well it could not have been better. The room was very large with a huge bed, the bathroom was in marble with expensive toiletries, a bath and a seperate large shower cabinet, the usual dressing gown and slippers that you find in good hotels, a well stocked mini fridge etc. The breakfast had a wide range of foods and all the staff were friendly and attentive. I could not fault this establishment.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a view of Circular Quay.

Checking in was a breeze, the receptionists were so welcoming, we asked how much to be upgraded to a club harbour view room overlooking the opera house- for a minimal amount it was worth it. Room wasnt so big but okay for our family- not also so new.. Our aircon was busted- it was freezing and controls were not working so the maintenance guy came to fix it right away..Selection for breakfast was good- it had asian, japanese and you could order waffles and eggs benedict from the kitchen. We were there easter weekend so the queue was long for breakfast and the club was always full- so always come at 6 pm sharp if you want to get a table at the lounge. .. They were nice to our kids and were helpful with our transport needs and inquiries. Our kids were always excited to go back to the hotel , they saw it like a second home.. Express check out was convenient too. Perfect for families..

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the opera house
