“Great for short trips”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

Stayed with a girlfriend, small room but great for our 1 night stay. Right in the heart of World Square so close to shops, restaurants, bars etc. Parking is secure & underground ($30/night extra). Clean rooms and friendly staff, didn't hear any city noise at all. Breakfast was included in our stay and is quite substantial - lots of hot and cold options, all buffet - eat as much or as little as you like. Would definitely stay again.

Can recommend for the non fussy traveller looking for a reasonably priced room in Sydney.
Stayed here on Saturday night as we had a few things on in Sydney. Location was great. Short walk from Central Station and right around the corner from China Town and Paddys market.
The rooms are basic, old and in need of much updating. The cleanliness was fine. Being old things can look a lot worse then they are.
Service was good. We couldnt get the tv to work or any of the power points and someone came to sort it out for us straight away.
If needed we would consider staying here again.

Considering it rates itself as 3.5 stars this hotel was disappointing and more like 2.5 stars.
It's good features are --it's location beside the Capital Theatre which was why we chose it, very quiet at night -no street noise at all, room temperature very comfortable, in spite of it being outdated and worn the room was pretty clean, the breakfast room is nice and the staff were approachable and efficient.
The not so good features were the tiny size of the room - having to sort of turn sideways to squeeze past the end of the bed, bathroom also tiny and shower awkward to get into and it fogged up completely with even the shortest shower, walls in need of painting desperately and as I said before generally outdated and worn looking.
It was OK, but I'd probably look elsewhere next trip to Sydney for something a little better.

I stayed on a business trip for several days. First impression is the hotel has a very tired look but its location is very good for where I needed to be. The room had everything I needed at nights, the breakfast was good, the staff were helpful but I found the walls paper thin and could hear both neighbours very well.

The area can be quite noisy at the weekend (not the hotels fault).

Room Tip: Try not to get a room facing George street due to the noise from that road.

Thank you for taking the time to express your feedback regarding your stay at Capitol Square Hotel. Your feedback is every important to me and the hotel. Without guests feedback we may never know what issues guests experience and therefore will go unrectified. Its not very often guests comment about the walls being thin, this is something I will look into. I was pleased to read that everything else was satisfactory and suited your needs during your short business trip to Sydney. I hope we can welcome you back to Sydney for a future stay.

I stayed here for a weekend. This hotel is in a great location just off George st, Chinatown, close to the Sydney Entertainment centre, and a short walk to the metro and Darling Harbour and Circular quay. The hotel is in an old building next to the Capitol Theatre but the interior has been renovated and is modern. It has a few little quirks left over from its early days like sqeaky floorboards - but thats what gives it character.

The rooms are basic but clean and all you really need for a short stay. The bathroom was a bit tired, but what do you expect - the building is historic, but there was heaps of hot water. The bed was really comfortable and king size. The restaurant serves a great buffet breakfast for $12.

Great place for a short stay. Make sure you look around the hotel (in all directions) as there are heaps of good places to eat and cafe's.

Room Tip: Rooms overlook the theatre are quietest but we had one over looking the street and it was still quie...

Such positive feedback, thank you for your kind words. We are proud of the building and its heritage. Did you know that between the 1790's and 1830's the brickfields were situated on the same site the hotel is? Also from the 1830's till about the 1950's the site was used for all sorts of markets and trades like cattle, fruit & Veg, flowers, and hay which is where the name Haymarket comes from and is still used today.
Thank you again for such great feedback. I was so pleased to read that you found all aspects of the hotel suited your accommodation needs. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel for a future stay.

Kind Regards

Spent 3 nights, good size room for 2 people, nothing flash but clean & comfortable and well located bottom end of George St next to Paddies Market & China Town. Selection of restaurants just outside door, plenty of Thai restaurants around corner into Pitt St. Easy walk from central railway station.

Room Tip: Right Next door to the Capitol Theatre, excellent for seeing a show...
