My wife who is Deaf requires closed captioned TV in order to understand. We have stayed in many Marriotts all over the world and have never been as frustrated as this one. We have made several requests to have the problem fixed but was told the hotel was unable to provide captioned and has never had it, Hopefully, as required by law, this hotel will fix this problem soon so other hearing impaired and Deaf people won’t face the same problem.

We stayed for 3 nights with Marriott Gold Status and it was a grand slam!!! I would highly recommend this hotel for its location and value. The hotel is a few minutes walk from circular quay, the opera house, the rocks, Sydney bridge. Best of all it can be reached directly from the airport via the train systems. We arrived at 9AM and our room was ready-and that never happens for us! After a long 14 hr flight, getting into the room early to freshen up helped us beat the jet lag. For those whose room isn’t ready, the early arrivals lounge is up to par with showers, refreshments and couches for lounging. We enjoyed the executive lounge each day as they offer breakfast, afternoon tea, heavy hor devours for dinner and then dessert. For those looking to save a buck with status, the meals provided in the lounge are enough to satiate your appetite. Best part of allI is the selection of beverages- from cold Australian beers to red and white varietals of the Australian wine regions we never found ourselves thirsty. The bed was super comfy and the view of our room (upgraded with our status) overlooked the Sydney opera house. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff members we interacted with. From the front desk to the concierge, the quality of the staff at this hotel is 5 stars all the way!!!!

Each year I collect enough Marriott points to use over the festive/ new year period. Over the past few years I have had some awesome experiences in major international cities, but my experience at the Sydney Marriott was probably the worst ever!

Check-in:

Utter chaos and no one to help with baggage. No friendly welcome to Sydney or Australia. The first thing they aggressively said was no facilities for Marriott Members, we are busy... wow what a difference from the Sheraton where I had stayed the night

The Room:

The wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned to standard, and extra towels were not available due to an issue with the hotel running low on linen -so staff told me (management fail).

The bed was very old and not comfortable at all. I had to have staff put 3 layers of blankets on the bed, just to make it comfortable. Also if you looked under the sheets, the beds were so old, they were brown - see pic

Oh and don’t try having a bath, because the plug does not work and therefore I had to keep topping up the water.

Exec Lounge:

Well in some of the hotel literature they showed this on a high floor with great view, but in reality it’s a small and couldn’t handle the volume of guest thst you had to wait 20+ minutes for fresh food to be cooked. Be warned the sausages are not cooked properly and could be a health hazzard (in my opinion)

Staffing: Hotels have 12 months to plan for the festive holidays, so it was surprising how everything you get/ require when staying took so much longer - i.e Housekeeping 45+ mims

I have tried to summarise some of my concerns, but overall this was probably the most dreadful holiday season trip I have experienced.

The response was alsways, it’s busy - or You are are Marriott points, what do you expect when it’s free - erm free, how many nights did I have to stay to build up the points - are reward points not a currency themself?

All in all, this hotel desperately needs a management review, as the property couldn’t cope, and thefore high standards were severely dropped.

I’m very saddened by the experience!

Room tip: Stay at the Sheraton by the Park - much nicer hotel and staff look after you well.

Excellent location to Sydney Opera House. Our room had a view of the Opera house. We were able to watch the NYE fireworks from our room. The hote staff were helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.
