First off, just returned from a two week trip Down Under. Ironically, we stayed at 3 Marriott properties in Sydney, Melbourne, and Gold Coast. The Sydney Marriott was the worst of the three, but still a solid four star hotel. The location is fantastic, but the bang for the buck is not there, especially given the other high quality names in the area for a similar price. Here are the Pros and Cons of the property:

1. Unbeatable Location- Within 2 minutes of Circular Quay and The Rocks. Many good restaurants in walking distance. We landed, checked in to the hotel and walked 10 minutes to the Opera House.
2. Nice Room Views- As Marriott Gold, got a little upgrade to a higher floor and a nice view of the Sydney Bridge.
3. Nice Lounge
4. Good Breakfast Buffett

Cons:
1. Price- There were a number of properties in the vicinity of this hotel that would have offered better rooms for the price. If we had to do it over again, we would have stayed in a nicer brand for a little more money and would have gotten a much better experience.
2. Hotel lacked Character and Energy- for such a great location, the hotel was cold and very business like. This is great for business, not so much for tourism. Overall, the energy of the place was very "blah" and not much fun.
3. The service was ok, but not good compared to the other Marriott properties we stayed at.

Overall, a great location, but for the money you may want to look elsewhere. We stayed here because we were on a tour and had Marriott status. The Marriott status may help overcome some of the room issues others have mentioned.

When you pay $369 for one night you expect things to go pretty well.

When we arrived slightly early at 230pm we were told a room was ready for us. So we went up and annoyingly the room had been turned down but not made up (see pics). So I called reception and the unapologetic lady said she'd call back. She did about 5 minutes later and said someone would come up. So we sat in the dirty room for 15 mins until I called back. This time she apologised and someone arrived about 5 mins later.

Our wine and toiletries packs didnt arrive till about 530pm but thats ok.

Everything else though was good. Room was comfy, clean. Pillows decent which is rare. Staff in the bar were friendly and the valet fairly prompt.

Wouldn't pay full price again but overall a pretty decent hotel.

I am an elite traveler with Marriott so I always try to book that chain whenever possible. Considering the location of the Marriott in Sydney Austrailia, right at Circular Quay, one block from the opera house seemed liked the place to be. Got in relatively late on a Saturday night and the hotel was booked solid. I had a reservation and did get a room, but was more a cubby-hole than a real room. Ok, maybe they'll have a better selection the next night and I'll get upgraded then, I thought. I was told at check in that all rooms had one electrical converter. My room didn't have any so I called the desk. I was told no problem, they'd send 2 up, (including extra one I asked for). Told me extra charge for additional converter. Really ! The lobby of the hotel was modern looking but somehow very cold- both in demeanor as well as physically cold. Desk staff was efficient, but I wouldn't altogether say pleasant. Just business like. As hotels go, it was ok- but- I guess because of location this hotel charges big money- Without a big money hotel delivery. When I found out that I could have stayed at the Four Seasons, 1/2 block away for LESS than I was paying here, for my cubby-hole, I just vowed 'never again'.

Room Tip: Make it clear you either want a 'bridge view' or opera house view- otherwise you'll be v...

Great central location to everything - from the Opera House to Westfield, everything was pretty much walking distance in every direction. And with true Marriott fashion, the service and amenities was good. They even upgraded us to the Opera House view since it was my birthday. Free wifi in the room and access to the Executive Lounge for Gold and Platinum members (yay!).

The suite was clean, quiet and had a great view of the Opera House and was divided into 2 rooms - a living room and the bedroom, each with its own flat screen tv. But if it wasn't for the tall business building in front of the hotel, we would've gotten a nice view of the Harbour Bridge as well. The bathroom was big, fully stocked with bathroom supplies and equipped with both a bath tub and shower stall. The beds were uber comfy and lots of lighting all over the rooms - whether its for reading before bed or just making the room brighter.

The Executive Lounge had great views of both the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. It offered appetizers in the late afternoon (5-7:30pm), desserts (7:30-9pm) at night and breakfast that had more variety of food I've ever seen. You can also pretty much make a dinner out of the appetizers. Not to mention, it was open bar during appetizers, which is usually cash bar in some of the US Marriotts I've stayed at.

Minus 1 star for us waiting over 2 hours for our luggages. We called a couple of times for an update and they didn't bother telling us that it was under a different name. If my cousin didn't go down to the lobby, I don't know how much longer we would've waited for our luggages.

Forget about it's location of great view. Horrible hotel room with water dripping and uncomfortable sounds in the middle of the night. I won't recommend to anyone unless you are lucky enough to have a nice view of the hotel.
