“Started well, finished badly”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We had booked this hotel using Marriott Reward points.
Receptionist was great on check in, and we were happy with our room.
After a fantastic dinner at Tetsuya's, we were looking forward to a sleep in on Friday.
Despite us placing their "Shhh" do not disturb sign on the door, we were woken by the Housekeeper knocking and wanting to service the room.
After complaining to "At Your Service", received the odd advice that the situation would be rectified. Not sure how they planned to do that? Then I requested to speak with their Duty Manager, who was unavailable, but did call back later.
It seems that one of their employees had checked us out whilst we were sleeping, by applying our reward points to the account. Supposedly they also respect "Shhh" signs, but didn't in our case.
Because of two of their staff not doing their job properly, we were left with a bad impression of this hotel.
The Duty Manager (Amy) did offer us a late check out, an complimentary breakfast, which we did accept.
Interestingly this information did not appear to be passed on the Reception, and had to explain that we had been given complimentary breakfast, and these charges needed to be reversed.
I'd like to say that the Receptionist on Check Out (Caroline) was fantastic, friendly, sympathetic, and seemed genuinely concerned about what had occurred.
Not sure if we'd stay here again, but if you decide to, and book using Marriott Reward points, it may be worth alerting them that you don't want to be checked out whilst you are still in the room :-)

Room Tip: Would recommend a high floor, with views of the harbour.

We stayed here in April for a few nigths before leaving on a south Pacific cruise. We loved the views, the outstanding service in the Executive Lounge, and we could walk everywhere! Our room was gorgeous and we had a great view of the Opera House. The lobby was unassuming but didn't matter since the service was so great. We loved going out late and eating at the surrounding outdoor cafes. The ferries are close by and a great way to see the city. The metro takes you right there from the airport and the cruise ship dock is just a block away. Worth the price for the convenience. Can't wait to go back.

Stayed here for 5 nights last week.
Room wasn't ready so went for walk around Rocks came back two hours later still room wasn't ready. One excuse after the other! Great location but attitude of front desk staff was " you are lucky to have a room" . Not what I would expect from Marriot .

We stayed here for one night using our credit card points, and I am glad we didn't pay for it. I previously paid for my parents to stay there and it cost me $430 a night. For that price I would want to be made to feel special.

The foyer areas of the hotel felt dated. We had a coffee in the foyer cafe and waited for ages for someone to take our order. They took so long that I walked to the counter and then waited even longer to get served. Definitely not 5 star service.

The room was nice though not large with a nice outlook, and the location is very good. The bed was comfortable.

The most disappointing part was the buffet breakfast which was $38 per person from memory. I tried most things and enjoyed nothing. Pancakes were strangely yellow and revolting.

This was a rare opportunity for my husband and i to spend a night away from the kids and I certainly didn't expect to be disappointed by a supposed 5 star hotel.

Dear JoB1Kenobi,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your review from your recent stay at Sydney Harbour Marriott.

I am dissapointed to learn of your unsatisfactory experience in a couple of areas within the hotel. It is always our intention to provide an exceptional service to all of our guests and I deeply sorry that we have failed to deliver such a service on this occasion. I have taken the liberty to pass your feedback on to our Food and Beverage team to undoubtedly be used for improvement.

I do hope this experience has not dampened your perception of the hotel and sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back.

Kind regards,

Great location. Rooms have been upgraded enough, not huge but very nice. Service was excellent and the concierge helped us with all our booking needs. The location is one block from the waterfront at the Circular Quay. Lots of cafes and restaurants at your finger-tips.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a room with a view.

This was a great Marriott in an amazing location. The reception was warm and attentive, something we thought had been lacking in our past few Marriott visits. Bellmen greeted us, valets gathered our luggage and we had a room ready at 0600 am! We stayed on the 27th floor in room 2702. At first we were concerned because it was right across from the elevator. What a view! Perfect view of the opera house. We did not hear the elevators, or guests, once during our stay. What a quiet hotel. I am so happy that we did nit switch rooms! No need to, although, we were there during the off season in early July.

Did I mention the location? Besides being steps from Circular Quay, the train station, ferry station and hop on/off buses were less than a 5 minute walk. We saw all ofSydney on foot, but you could easily take public transportation from here.

The beds were amazingly comfortable and the concierge and front desk staff were very helpful. Only one minor Complaint. The Executive lounge was Nero re comparatively speaking. We are gold members and always stay at Marriott - traveling about 6-8 times a year. This was one of the weakest clubs. The food was lacking in quality and quantity and the staff was not attentive or friendly. They ran out of stuff every evening and were more focused on mundane duties that personalized service was non-existent.

Overall, amazing hotel in an ideal location. You can't go wrong with a stay here!!!

Room Tip: 2702 had an amazing view of the Opera House.

20 mins by train from international airport to Circular Quay, then 2 minute walk from there.
The hotel overlooks the harbour, with great views of the opera house if you're lucky enough to get the right side.
Couldn't ask for better location, and like all Marriotts, service was excellent. Rooms weren't large but very smart and functional. Would definitely stay her again if I'm lucky enough to come back to Sydney.
