“Good, but needs a bit of work”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

The overall stay was good, check in excellent, concierge very good, room - executive floor - very good. Let down by $20/day for wifi - even in executive level and lack of supervision in executive lounge. The executive lounge was "hijacked" by two groups of 6-8, including children who used the supplied (very good) canapes as an evening meal. There was no effective supervision, only the staff member refilling the food. Entry by swiping your room card left open to abuse. To be fair, breakfast buffet in executive lounge was excellent. Overall a good experience.

GR8 place to stay central to Sydney shopping centre, The rooms are lovely and very clean, massive bath, Foxtel, comfy bed. Did not have dinner as we went out but the breaksfast was the best full buffet breakfast i have ever had. Only small issue was the poor staff in the restaurant were run off their feet obviously understaffed but the service was GR8 from the 2 staff on. Management need to stick on more staff in the restaurant 1 making coffees and 1 serving tables was poor planning if people called in sick then someone in a suit might have to get their hands dirty and stick on an apron. I will stay again very friendly people. :)

This was my first time here and will not be the last - great welcome, friendly staff, clean, great sleep - what more could I need? Well.. the Executive Club was small, intimate and well managed by extremely accommodating staff both for the evening canapes and breakfast. opssibly another hot selection for breakfast would be my only criticism of a very enjoyable stay.

Like many others got this hotel on a secret hotel rate. It's no surprise they have to offer these rates as the hotel needs to be refurbished to Pullman standard urgently. The rooms are definitely not 5 star standard, and feels much more like a 4 star service. The front desk staff were slow and people were queuing for sometime for checkout.

Having said that a room was made available for me some hours before check-in time which was highly appreciated. Also, the location is quite good at Hyde Park with the train station just a short stroll away. This hotel is also ideal for people planning a night out in Oxford st.

I will be back once the refurb is complete but not beforehand. At the moment it is a 4 star hotel.

I stayed here while on a work trip, so accommodation was booked as part of corporate approved hotels. It was until about mid-2012 part of the Marriott hotel range, but is now part of the Accor-Pullmann chain. So not all the taxi drivers had caught up with this name change, so expect some confusion for a while longer.

As noted by other reviewers the location is handy to the CBD, being located on Hyde Park, and at the beginning of Oxford Street. There are more central hotels but this should be close enough for most people.

There is nothing special about this hotel (call me a jaded corporate traveler, if you must) but it covers all of the essentials well enough. My room did have a microwave and two hot plates so I guess you could do some cooking if you wanted. I had a corner room - recommended - and it was plenty big enough. I did appreciate having a balcony if only because you could have some fresh air and admire the view.

Be aware that there are private apartments on the lower floors so you may find yourself over-looking their outside areas on some of the lower levels of the hotel, such as floors 9, 10, 11.

The hotel does seem a little bit tired - I had a few minor issues with my room, e.g. shower head was cracked and therefore leaked, and the TV didn't function properly. But these were fixed promptly and efficiently. I did notice a smell of mothballs in the hotel corridors. Definitely needs a revamp, as noted by other reviewers. Perhaps the new owners have this on their agenda.

The TV was slow to switch channels and wasn't digital. Internet was fast however.

Beds were comfortable, although too soft for my liking.

What little interaction I had with staff was pleasant and efficient. My bags were brought to my room by the 'bell-hop' and it didn't expect a tip.

I had no trouble hailing taxis from the front of the hotel.

I didn't use room service so can't comment on that.

All in all, it was a pleasant stay for this corporate traveler, without in aay way being exceptional.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. Better views and I suspect more space.

Great location. I would have liked an extra blanket and extra towels in room. Easy walk to capital theatre for a show.

Lunch time special in bar was fantastic. Great food and great price. I had fish and chips and my husband had lamb shanks. The staff in the bar was friendly and he provided quick service
