“Great staff in a convenient spot”
Reviewed September 27, 2010

We needed somewhere to stay for a couple of days in Sydney before and after a cruise ship voyage. The Cambridge was a convenient spot to take in the city sights which were well within walking distance.Staff were professional, well groomed and accommodating to our every needs. From holding our luggage in a secure location before check in time to sorting out a squabble between taxi drivers, we were impressed with the customer service throughout our stay. Our room was well appointed, the restaurant served up a good feed.Should you wish to dine elsewhere, there is no shortage of places nearby. Our only gripe was that the lift foyers and room corridors were a bit pokey to transport our baggage around, but then again we were lugging a fair bit. We'll be back.

I am not sure what the official star rating is for this hotel but it probably falls into the 2/3 star category in relation to decor.

I was attracted to this hotel by the price, the proximity to the centre of Sydney and the Central railway station and also the views from the rooms on the higher floors. The actual visit met my expectations on these issues. However this is really a basic hotel with a small plain lobby. The corridor outside the rooms is like something from a low budget motel. Again the room was large, but poorly decorated although clean and I enjoyed a comfortable nights sleep. I would return to this hotel again but the reality is it is just a room to sleep in.

Dear MountainmanDromore,

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with us. It is truly through guest feedback we know what we are doing right and where we can improve. We pride ourselves on personalized service and value for money. The hotel has recently undergone a multimillion dollar refurbishment. This included the upgrading of all the corridors.

Once again thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back at the hotel.

Stayed at the Cambridge as it was close to the Belvoir Theatre. Glad we did, we have found a top spot. Great staff, competent, efficient and thoughtful. Enjoyed a meal in the restaurant after a matinee show, the waiter was friendly and made the evening a pleasure due to his We would both stay there again and have recommended the hotel to family and friends. Keep up the good work Cambridge. We had time to spare before an afternoon flight so spent time walking around looking at the old terrace houses, then up to the Sydney CBD to shop. A bit of a walk by the time we got back but enjoyable just the same.

Stayed here for a week to visit Sydney.
Excellent:
- Room and furnishings were very nice
- Hotel was well kept up and looked like it had been recently remodeled into a "modern" theme
- Restaurant was tasty - and convenient, both for breakfast and other meals
- Breakfast buffet at $14.95 (AUD) was an excellent value - hot and cold foods every morning
- Location next to Oxford St night life was great
- Walking distance to Capitol Theater and china town and Starbucks (half a mile) (but Gloria Jean's was closer - two blocks)
- Let me keep my rented bicycle in my room
- Nice views of the town (on my 9th floor room)
- Excellent house keeping - very prompt every day
- Across the street from the Surrey Hills Police Department (e.g. good safety, but no sirens in middle of night!)
Not so great:
- Shower hot water not consistently hot (it went back and forth between luke warm and scalding)
- Shower doors fell off track every time I opened or closed them
- No "hot" tub - "spa" was heated to same temp as the rest of the pool; too cool to sit in comfortably. But "bubbles" worked.

Arrived in Sydney early morning, arrived at hotel and requested early check in. This comes at a $30 extra charge. Once I got up to this room, I was not impressed. They had attempted to give a substandard room, of a lesser quality to the deluxe room I paid for, and $30 more! The room was dirty, the bedside table had so much dust it looked like it hadn't been wiped down in weeks. In the bathroom, there was only a shower with a some what broke door instead of the bathtub that was promised. To say the least I did not stay in this room. They were able to provide a luggae storage area until the room I paid for was ready. They said they would call once the room was ready, which they never did.

Having said this, once I arrived back at the hotel at 6pm, the room I was given was much much better than the first. Queen deluxe room was a pretty good size, with somewhat separate living and bedroom areas. Much cleaner than the first room with a comfortable bed. The Surrey Hills area is great, not in the city center which I really liked, great restaurants, especially Madam Char Char's. Staff was ok, nice and pretty much average. The hotel has had "upgrades" in the past few years but just seems to be a little paint, signs and color splashed on an older hotel. But for the money was a pretty good stay.

Great value place in a great location just off Oxford street. Stayed here for a number of nights in September 2010. The room was large with a comfortable bed and I had no noise problems as I was on one the upper floors. The room had a balcony and great city views. Staff were professional and courteous and I had no problems checking in or out. Would have received a 5 star rating if the wifi internet costs were not so ridiculously priced at $20 per day for wifi access.

The hotel was good, comfortable and with rather large rooms. Breakfast buffet had a good selection every morning. However, the place was popular with large student tour groups so the lobby was often crowded with kids hanging out or waiting to check in/leave on a tour/etc. It was a bit of a hike from here to the Rocks/Circular Quay area, about 15-20 minutes, which wasn't terrible but with Sydney in a cold snap it made for a long, chilly hike!
