Good central hotel 30 minute walk from Opera House. Rooms are good and comfortable . Breakfast is dull and the same every morning with luke warm cooked food, no fresh fruit and water not boiling for making tea/ coffee. Good service in the bar and pleasant staff there.

Hotel is well located, about 10 minutes walk into town and near by parks, eateries etc though extremely dated. Having only been in Sydney for 3 or 4 days the night before we checked in we decided to have a walk to find this hotel. On arrival the lobby looked extremely bright, modern and contemporary...impressive however the service was shocking. We approached the front desk to check ou reservation was in order, it took the agent 5 mins to find the booking and informed us was a double, I said we had requested a twin and she responded "yes if we have one you can, if not then a double, thats why your allocated a double on our system" not good!
After some deliberation we left, she hadnt agreed to put us in a twin, on 'her system' we remained in a double room.
On arrival the next day we were presented, after the long wait to check in (15 mins) with a room key and the lift was pointed out to us. We made our way up to room which was a double, called reception, they arranged to move us, (after 30 mins).
Before going out that evening we thought to do some laundry, followed signs for guest laundry and ended up in a store room in the basement with a heap of insects, chefs sat outside the room smoking and little light!
We slept one night in the hotel with virtually no covers as they were full of human hair and proceeded to check out the following morning.

Swimming pool and leisure facilities also had little natural ligght and were surrounded by what appeared to be internal guest rooms.

Terrible experience...dont stay at this hotel, there are far, far better properties in the sydney area which offer better accom at cheaper prices and much, much better helpful and friendly service.

We stayed here over New Year 2008/9. Compared to the other hotels on our trip to Australia this was definitely the best. The room was plenty big enough (there were 3 of us), very clean and well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful and the location was near enough to the centre to be walkable - in about 20 minutes down Elizabeth Street. Also close to the station - 10 mins walk. Perhaps the bit we liked most was the extremely reasonable breakfast, only 9.50 dollars for healthy and 12.95 dollars for full. Compared to some hotel breakfast rip offs that's excellent. The pool is small but good enough and there is a jacuzzi as well. Large underground car park, laundry room and two internet terminals. Very good value for money. Definitely take a close look at this one.

having previously stayed at the Cambridge some 4 years ago and were satisfied we decided to give it another go. How pleased i was to find it had been refurbished and upgraded. the room was so much nicer and the veiw from the balcony was wonderful and included the opera House. a little away from the city, you will need to take a walk to get to most of the sights, or grab a bus on nearby Oxford Street. locally there are many restaurants and cafes ( The Soup Kitchen is a must if only for the entertaining service!). if you need internet access i would reccomend going to the internet cafe in the shopping centre opposite, much cheaper than using the hotel connection. If you are booking, ask for room 1306 (deluxe Double) you wont be dissapointed.

This hotel is located next to the New South Wales Police Headquarters, nearer to Oxford St (the gay/lesbian precinct of Sydney). The hotel has been refurbished recently (so everything is new) but the hotel lifts are probably its charm. It functions well but the way you have to run around [each lift has doors facing in a different direction]. Rooms are clean and equipped with LCD TVs. Broadband is available but expensive. There are computers in the lobby too that you can use (also chargeable). Note that the corridors outside the rooms are narrow. And I mean, really narrow. Two persons could not pass each other without one stopping! But once inside the room, it's ok. Some rooms have horrible views so if you plan to stay in to work/rest, ask for rooms that face Riley St (you can a view of the city). Occasionally if the tourist buses show up, the breakfast downstairs is a bit of a rush. But if you are willing to walk about 3 minutes onto Oxford St, you can get any kind of breakfast you want. For the price it charges, it's got the most horrible car park facility in the world - using it is an experience itself you will not forget.

  • Liked — Just recently refurbished, so everything's new
  • Disliked — The morning breakfast crowd (the tourist groups!)

Hi fellow travellers, I would like to tell all about a hip hotel i came across called the Cambridge in Sydney. After returning from Japan via Singapore, we were looking for something that was a little different, fashionable, clean, and in a great location to stay. This was definately it. When we arrived, we were greated by a modern lobby, two Vespa scooters, and a group of motivated receptionists, who made the check in simple, polite and quick. After a couple of drinks at the bar, (changing lights!) , we proceeded to explore the famous Oxford Street which was merely 100m away. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk, and returned to the Hotel for a well deserved rest. We had booked a Deluxe room which was large , modern, clean and comfortable. Our room also had great views of the city at night. We ordered drinks in room service and had a good night sleep on a very comfortable bed.
We explored Sydney City, (10 mins walk away), with Darling harbour, Shopping and the Opera House and stayed another night before leaving. All in all, a great hotel with our recommendation. We will definately return for a longer stay.

This was my first trip alone and after 22 hours on a plane all I wanted was a shower and a bed. I found my way to the hotel from the train station which wasn't too hard. The location of the hotel is on a side street, quite close to everything, just a few minutes walk to the park & shopping.
When I arrived the hotel had no notes of my booking but after a few hours wait and a chat with the manager they eventually found it and it was worth the wait.
The room was fantastic. I had a great view of the city - could even see the Opera house in the distance. The rooms are very large with a great balcony. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. There was a good flatscreen tv with a fair few channels. The room also had a couch and a small fridge with tea & coffee making facilites. The aircon was great and had a remote control which was very handy!!
Staff were ok. They initially seemed a bit unsure but they were quite pleasant.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel. I stayed in a hostel & two other hotels in Sydney and this was probably the best.
