“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2008

Nice hotel located near the gay area of the city. Within walking distance to good shopping, transportation very close by. Nice clean rooms, except for the large metal garbage cans located in the bathroom, the type one would find under a kitchen sink. Room overlooked the very nice swimming pool. Check-in quick and friendly, restaurant and internet also available.

  • Disliked — Big metal garbage can located in the bathroom

Excellent staff, nicely modern lobby area. Rooms can be on the small side but are clean and also modern, though do appear to still be under renovations (one of our two rooms had a fairly older looking shower stall). Short walk to the Oxford St. shopping area, a bit longer of a walk to Darling Harbor area. Thankfully, easy access to the city's bus system is nearby. In room internet service may not be included, but can be added for fee. Very good bargain option.

Stayed here as it represented good value for money for Sydney. Room was clean, but bathroom was pretty old. There was an ironing board, but no iron.

The main thing to note is the noise. The rooms that overlook the pool pick up the echoes of every footstep and conversation of guests, plus the rattles and clunks of the staff cleaning trolleys in the morning.

The sauna is good, gym is very basic. Staff at reception not overly helpful. Location is good - walking distance to bars and cafes at Oxford Street and through Hyde Park into the city.

Overall - it's OK if there's not much else in your price range, but usually for the price you can get slightly better elsewhere.

Stayed here for the first 2 nights of an 8 day stay in Sydney. Chose this hotel for its proximity to Central Station, Oxford Street, and walking distance to Paddington (restaurants, shopping).

I checked out many hotels in this area by rates and reviews before deciding on this hotel. I got a very reasonable rate for the hotel by going directly to the Choice Hotels website, and prior reviews sounded like this would be a good choice. I was very happy with what I found!!

It was about a 20 minute walk to the hotel from the Central Train Station (albeit uphill the way I went and pulling my suitcase). There was an area to leave my luggage as I arrived before check-in (2:00 pm) and wanted to wander the area. ($10.00 key deposit to lock up luggage, refunded when you pick up luggage and return key.) My room was good size with 2 double beds, couch, table and chairs, dresser, fridge, etc. Bathroom was large enough and everything was very clean. Beds were very comfortable!! My room was on the pool floor, but I didn't hear any noise associated with pool use. There wasn't much of a view from my room, but honestly, having a view was not a factor for me.

Hotel desk staff were friendly and helpful, assisted with directions and suggested restaurants. Oxford Street was just a few minutes walk which meant plenty of shopping and restaurants, and walking along Oxford Street for a half hour or so gets you to Paddington (more shopping, food and open air market on the weekend). Little Italy was very close by too and we found some good restaurants there.

There is a bar and a restaurant at the hotel, but I didn't use either except the latter for coffee to go. (I just preferred to partake in what the area had to offer.) There were 2 computers available in the lobby; $5.00 for 1/2 an hour of internet. Taxis were easy to hail from out front.

I wasn't in my room much except to sleep, but I did want a hotel that I would feel safe and comfortable in, was clean, and convenient to what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. I feel I definitely received all this, found a great value for the price, and was very pleased with this hotel.

This was my second stay at this hotel having been here in 2007. You'll be pleased to know that they have 2 brand new lifts that will whiz you to your floor!

This hotel really does represent great value for money and I do recommend the Deluxe rooms which are spacious and have a nice homely feel.

The staff were extremely helpful whenever I asked for something and engaged in pleasant and polite conversation.

For what you pay here y really can't fault it. I will be back...

I stayed here for one night with my mum in the Deluxe Room. It was very modern and clean, and had plenty of space for us to enjoy a coffee or bite to eat without being cramped. There was a lounge and coffee table area. The bathroom was also very modern and clean, but be aware there is no bath tub.

We also enjoyed a cocktail in the hotel bar which had a great atmosphere.

The location is excellent. A few minutes to Oxford Street and about 15minutes walk from Central Station. We stayed here to see a show at the Lyric Theatre in Darling Harbour, as we couldnt afford anywhere in Darling Harbour itself. It only cost around $13 each way for a taxi.

I am already planning to stay here next time Im in Sydney.

  • Liked — Modern, Clean and fantastic location
  • Disliked — The lifts are quite small, thats the only negative comment!

We stayed at this hotel for six days, having stayed there several times previously. We had a newly renovated room on the 8th floor, facing away from the street. Our room was quiet, the breakfast was ample and the location of the hotel was convenient for our purposes - a ten minute walk from downtown Sydney and close to many bus routes. The staff were helpful. The hotel is good value. We will return.
