“Great location, good value”
Reviewed December 5, 2011

This hotel is located inside the shell of a historic building, although the interior is strictly modern, the decor being about 30 years old. For Sydney it is a mid range hotel with an excellent location opposite the Sydney Entertainment Center, and at the edge of Chinatown and Paddy's Markets. Both Central Station and Darling Harbour are a 10 minute walk away. I stayed there with my daughter, initially they gave us a room with a double bed, not sure whose fault that was but they gave us another room with 2 singles very promptly. Staff were pleasant and the place seems to be well run.

The Sydney Monorail actually runs across the front of the building but due to double glazing there was no noise at all, and the airconditioning is efficient. As our room had a locked door leading to the next room it looks as though rooms can be made interconnecting for families. Room service was good quality food at a reasonable price.

The rooms are not overly large or luxurious, and well in need of renovation, plus the awful 1980's bathroom had a mold problem on the tiles. There was a notice up saying that for the convenience of guests the minibar had been got emptied out but but could be restocked on request, which annoyed me, as I don't really like drinking Sydney tap water at 2am. Beds were comfortable and there is a choice of soft and firm pillows.

For the price this is good quality accomodation and I would certainly stay here again.

this hotel was just about what i expect from Holiday Inn.
Decent sized room with LCD TV and reasonably up to date bathroom.
One of the towels in my room was dirty and they challenged me on the discount voucher that i had... other than that, the one night i spent was comfortable.

I stayed one night in Nov 2011 as I arrived in Sydney one day earlier than expected. I am a Priority Club Platinum card holder, the highest attainable level. The hotel granted me late check out, upgrade and newspapers for free which is good. What was uncomfortable was the staff attitude. At the time of check out, as I was not really ready due to some packing problems, I called reception on the phone to ask for half an hour extension. The staff who picked up the call could not decide and transferred my call to another staff who curtly told me that they will start charging the min I past the half hour mark, something that no hotel would tell a customer. The location is good but I feel I am quite put off to staying there again in the near future.

Stayed again at HI at Darling Harbour while traveling for work. It is always reasonable value for Sydney. Decor and furnishings very dated. Check in and check out can be painfully slow. Staff is friendly but could be better trained to operate more quickly. Location right next to Chinatown, so not great variety of food right nearby. Elevators very slow. I stay out of habit (and because generally I like Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza's) but may try someplace else next time

I normally would stay near the airport but there's not a lot to do out that way in Sydney, so I thought I'd give this one a go.

Nice new hotel...very friendly staff. Check in was a bit slow but the room was very clean and the bed was 1st class. The pillows we tagged 'soft' and 'firm' - nice touch! Whilst the room was a touch small (aren't they all now?) the fittings were of good quality. Shower water was nice and hot and a decent flow too.

I was a bit disappointed with the room's iron - quite old and clunky and not great heat control, but the ironing board was OK.

The buffet breakfast was really good quality and price. List price was $24.95 but if you get in before 7.30 am the price for the full buffet is only $19.50. That's pretty good value in Sydney. The restaurant isn't that big so get in early.

I do love the location. A 5-8 min walk to Town Hall railway station, Chinatown on your doorstep. There is a great food hall in the Sussex Center complex just around the corner and for $12 I got quite a bit Chinese meal that was really nice.

Darling Harbour, the I-Max Theater etc all no more than a 10 min walk, if that.

If you are in Sydney mixing work and a bit of pleasure I think is could be worth a look. I was a bit unsure about noise but my room was on the 6th floor and I didn't hear a sound overnight. Lower floors might be more of an issue but that's an assumption on my part.

Well done Holiday Inn! Good effort.

Room Tip: Go for 5th or 6th floor to ensure a quiet night's sleep

We arrived after a 24 flight, had asked for early check in and where very quickly accomidated. Our room was very clean and quiet (at the back of the building) the street and monrail are right out front. We where there for a week. Conceriege staff could not have been more helpful. Explaining local buses, trams and monorail as well as tour operators for day trips out of town. The resturant although fairly expensive had great "specials" several nights during our stay. Many local resturants nearby and China town only a block. Location is very good to see the Sydney sights. Across the street is a McDonald with free WiFi if you have to stay connected. Internet rates at the hotel somewhat high.

Room Tip: Quieter on the back of the buliding.

I was travelling to Sydney on business. This hotel is quite close to the Darling Harbour and China town. My stay was quite comfortable and the room had all the basic amenities that I needed for such a long stay ( 15 days )... like iron table, tea maker etc. It had a laundry room as well. Though I did not eat in the hotel most of the times .. ventured out to Darling Harbour and China town. Quite a few eating options around the hotel.
The staff was friendly and the concierage desk was quite helpful in providing information about the tourist destinations in Sydney.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.
