“Great Location!!”
Reviewed March 10, 2010

I booked this hotel for my pre-wedding and wedding night coz our reception is just a walking distance from the hotel. The room is great. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. It's only a few meters away from the Darling Harbour Bridge. So it has a fantastic location. Very good place to stay for the new year's eve. Coz you can see the whole thing at the roof top. The view is just amazing!!! if only not too expensive, i could have booked this for the NYE.

This was the second time we have stayed at this hotel and it is truly excellent venue. Right in the Rocks area of Sydney and convenient for just about everything. The staff are exceptional and the hotel is of a high standard. Strongly recommended.

We stayed here for 6 nights in December 2009 on a room only basis as part of our honeymoon to Australia and New Zealand.

The hotel is in the most amazing location within a couple of minutes walking distance of Circular Quay. You're right in the rocks which is great for lovely bars and restaurants and the markets that they hold there regularly. It's also just around the corner from the Tourist Information Centre which is handy.

The views from the roof terrace are fantastic and we loved going up there at night after dinner just to stare over to the harbour bridge and opera and house and back at the city. The only complaint here was that the biggest cruise ship I have ever seen was blocking the view of the opera house for 4 days of our stay. This was replaced by a smaller one the next day from which you could see over the top of. If you're booking a harbour view room I would check if a cruise ship is going to be in as they really aren't that pretty to look at! We used the pool and spa up on the roof twice which was good but could do with some serious TLC.

We were given a room on the top floor initially which unfortunately we had to ask to be moved from as the air conditioning grate was loose and there was no way we could have slept through the rattling noise. Reception moved us without question and were very friendly about the whole thing. The room we were moved to was on the 4th floor and overlooked the Italian restaurant at the back of hotel. The air con was still noisy but nothing like the first room. The room was smart and clean (though there was a dodgy stain on the bed runner...) with modern decor and a newish bathroom. The bath's plug was broken, but this didn't matter to us as we only used the shower. One of the electical sockets by the desk-come-dressing table was intermittently broken which was odd. Sometimes I had to unplug the alarm clock to dry my hair!

We paid to use the internet computers in the lobby on 3 occasions to update our family on our trip however the computers were a bit battered and slow and kept crashing which when you've paid $10 for half an hours internet access is a bit of a nightmare. With one particularly bad crash where the receptionist had to unplug the computer and start again we did get a free internet card as an apology.

The bar area is very nice and we ate there once and had the odd after dinner drink. It's quite pricey but then so is most of Sydney! What we did eat and drink was good quality.

All in all it's a nice hotel, with friendly staff, in a superb location but I would have expected less niggles for £170 a night room only. I've stayed in similar standard hotels in the UK for £65 per night B&B. Granted they're not in Sydney but £105 a night extra for location...hmmm.

We arrived at the same time as a number of guests, but the reception dealt with us efficiently. The room was at the back of the hotel so we had no traffic noise. The hotel restaurant only operates for breakfast. The excuse is that there are many nearby and they don't find it viable to provide meals. The location is excellent, close to the Central Piers, were you can get ferries to most destinations, and has a good train connection around the city. The Opera House is close-by also. It is easy to get to the Shopping area, but the real joy was the Rocks itself. There is an excellent italian restaurant behind the hotel. We rated the hotel highly for our 4 day stay, but it is in need of some TLC to be outstanding value. We would stay again on our return to sydney in the near future.

The hotel self isn't very stylish but the rooms are neat and has enough space for a baby cot... The location is great, as it's right vis a vis from the opera, next to Harbor Bridge and Circular Quay...

The hotel is located at one of the best spot in Sydney, at The Rocks, very close to Circular Quay and Opera House.
We booked a promotional rate at last minute through the hotel directly, but later found a cheaper rate on wotif. Due to their Best Rate Guarantee policy, our rate was reduced accordingly. This seemed to create conflict with the hotel when we checked out the next morning - they tried to charge us the higher rate. I think this is a poor customer service - since I have it in writing and all paid for, they should have just lived with it. In any case, after almost 20 minutes, it seemed they have confused themselves with their own promotions, and let us go. Good thing is they apologised for holding us back.

The room was okay, but it was a bit noisy as we were next to a pub. Luckily we were so tired, it didn't bother us.

The hotel is comfortable, but it certainly has seen better days and small upgrades would have gone a long way. We will stay here again, but definitely for the location and not for the hotel room itself.

This was the place to be. We got off the Diamond Princess and were able to walk to this well situated hotel. Our room was available at 9.30am which made it so convenient. The views were great and we watched the Diamond sail away in the evening from the rooftop. So convenient to walk to the Opera House and down to the quay or hop on a bus. We were able to get a special price for our stay and wished would would have been able to stay longer. Swimming pool area not so great but this is an older hotel and we were there to see the sights. Our room was on the side where the road was and it was a little noisy until 11pm or so but would still have taken this room for the view of the harbour. Sydney is a beautiful city.
