This Holiday Inn is in an absolutely outstanding location; has fabulous views from the roof top pool; offers great value; is clean and comfortable and the staff we met were all bright, cheerful and helpful.
Sure, you can nit-pick that the bathroom is small; the blinds are worn; the lobby ceiling is a bit tatty and so on. But if you can live with the fact that this isn't the most glamorous hotel in Sydney, it certainly punches well above its weight.
The location is in the heart of The Rocks area (perfect for tourists) but still just far enough away from any noise from the late night crowd. Our room (at the back) was large and comfortable if a little dated. The bathroom wasn't a highlight but it was adequate.
The 8th floor rooftop has a pool and tables and chairs if you want to just take in the panorama which ranges from the Harbour Bridge on the left, to the Opera House, Circular Quay and the CBD on the right. As the overseas passenger terminal is between the hotel and the Opera House, in summer cruise ships either detract from or add to the vista depending on your point of view. During our stay we watched 'Radiance of the Seas' slip away an hour before sunset and woke up with 'Queen Mary 2' in its place.
The breakfast (included in the rate) was pretty well everything you could ask for (although better coffee would have helped).
We would happily have stayed longer than our two nights if we could.
