“Great position but in need of updating.”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We stayed in this hotel over the Australia day long weekend. It was an exciting area to stay in as there was lots happening in the Rocks area of Sydney. There was a music festival on the doorstep and the night life was very vibrant.
From the roof of the hotel there were excellent views of the harbour. he breakfast was good but not inexpensive. The valet parking was VERY expensive but normal for Sydney and public parking in the Rocks area is also very expensive.

The major downfall of the hotel was our room. It was extremely small and tired looking. The bathroom was tiny and in need of a makeover. There was no view from the windows. We had requested a room with a view as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary but it didn't happen.
Front desk staff were helpful and the restaurant staff were very friendly. We looked without success to find a concierge several times during our visit to ask about the valet parking but gave up in the end as we couldn't find one!

Room Tip: Ask for a high room with Harbour views, but good luck on that one.

Dear hildaPerthWA

Thanks for taking the time to provide your great feedback. It is great to read all our guest's point of views to understand how to serve them better.

Just to note for future our friendly staff at the reception are great at multi-tasking. You can approach them for any concierge questions or queries. They can also assist with bags and attend valet parking. I admire their skills and dedication to all areas.

Look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards

We stayed for 4 nights at the start of our holiday. The location is ideal, walk out the door and the Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen to your left, across the road and down a few steps and there's a wonderful view of the Sydney Opera House. There are numerous bars, restaurants and cafes right on the doorstep. The open top hop on hop off bus stops directly opposite the hotel. Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the rocks and was very quiet. It was perfectly adequate and the furnishings well maintained if a little tired. There was a hospitality tray which was replenished daily. We ate breakfast in the hotel 2 days and found the staff extremely friendly, offering great advice and sugestions of what to do in Sydney. The roof top swimming pool offers fantastic views over circular quay especially at night. There is a small bar located on the ground floor in the corner of the impressive atrium reception where free wifi is available. A good hotel, though not the height of luxury in aperfect location with friendly and helpful staff.

Pleased with choice of hotel. Good value no frills. Comfy bed quiet room central location x very good breakfast eat all you can : ) to the left of hotel is a market over the weekend which is good for souvenirs. Also an Irish bar with a singer most evenings . To the right about 80 yards down. The oldest. Pub in sydney. Also singer and nice atmosphere.

We stayed for a night on 29 December before joining our cruise on the Radiance of the Seas on 30 December (for Sydney siders yes that was the ship that was parked in the harbor on New Years Eve and blocked every ones view).
The Hotel is very close to all the attractions of the Rocks and Circular Quay, and an easy down hill walk to the overseas passenger terminal and therefore ideal for us.
The hotel is an older style hotel, but has a great heritage feel to it. Our room looked out over the harbor (see attached photos), but even though it was a Saturday night and there is a club over the road we were not bothered by noise.
The rooms are comfortable, furnished in an older style and probably in need of a little modernization, but clean and well maintained and suited our needs well.
The hotel has no restaurant as such (apart from breakfast) as there are many restaurants nearby but does do room service which we found ok and reasonably priced.
All in all a good stay, close to everything and perfect for our needs.

Room Tip: Pool deck has great views

We stayed here for five nights in January 2013. This Holiday Inn is pretty standard in terms of rooms and service - it isn't luxurious but is perfectly adequate. What sets this Holiday Inn apart is it's fantastic location. Set in The Rocks area the hotel is perfectly located for walking to Circular Quay (10 minutes leisurely walk) and Sydney Harbour Bridge (10 minutes walk to the climb).

There are many bars and cafes immediately surrounding the hotel so there is no need to eat at the hotel (meals ordered at the bar are mediocre) but the area comes alive particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings when crowds queue in the streets for entry to the clubs and bars. On Saturday evenings the music and associated noise continued until 3am when it abruptly stopped.

Staff at the Holiday Inn reception desk were helpful and efficient and the bar staff were friendly.

The rooms were adequate and the bathrooms were tired and could do with a little tlc but don't let this put you off. There is a small swimming pool on the roof - make a trip up to the 8th floor just to take in the view of the bridge to your left and the opera house to your left. Wonderful!

We didn't take breakfast at the hotel. Just walk half a dozen steps from the hotel side entrance to the most wonderful little cafe serving great, reasonably priced breakfasts from 7am until midday and benefit from their free wi-fi. A great little place!

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors are likely to suffer from less noise from the surrounding night life.

This is a Holiday Inn in an exciting building which gives it a unusual feel. Amenities are all pretty standard but the foyer / lounge is a great place to while away some time quietly. Breakfast is standard, but ok, and the eggs cooked to order is great breakfast bonus. My room was adequate, not that well appointed to work, and furniture was a little tired. The location is excellent easy access but in an area of great charm and character. It is certainly a place that I would be happy to use the next time I am in Sydney
