“Typical taste of Eastern Europe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013 via mobile

Very much enjoyed the food at this restaurant. Food tasted authentically Eastern European. The belly of pork dish was great. We went on a Thursday evening so the restaurant was fairly quiet, with a subdued atmosphere. Decor is a little odd, looks like they are trying to achieve a shabby effect, but not sure that it achieved a genuine Eastern European feel. Waiters were very polite and from Eastern Europe. I did ask for a box to take away the leftovers, but the request was declined by the manager, using some useless explanation saying that it would compromise the 'exclusivity' of the restaurant. I was fairly annoyed at this attitude, since the restaurant is not located in the best of areas and it's exclusivity had been compromised by two transporters dropping off broken down cars to the garage next door while we were eating!

“A mixed experience ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner with friends on Saturday and we all shared a tasting menu. Whilst the individual components were enjoyable, there was no apparent linkage between any of the dishes. Also ended up eating strange combinations like salad and lamb. Having eaten in Eastern European restaurants like Baltic in London, I would struggle to recommend.

“Modernised Eastern European cuisine, done to perfection - a lovely dining experience.”

Ambience: relaxed, not too lively, romantic, chill, homely - perfect for a romantic dinner, a friendly catchup, an intimate birthday bash, a family gathering --> perfect for any ocassion
Service: extraordinary!! waiters are attentive, but not "in your face in every 5 minutes", so it was relaxed as well. the waiters made sure every need of yours was catered, and they suggested options for drinks and sides. They also told us about particular dishes, the ingredients that were in it. Completing the entire experience. Stellar customer goes a long way, and Food Society definitely do deliver.
Food: Simply beautiful. Delicious. Spectacular! lovely modern twists on certain Eastern European dishes. Their menu is seasonal, and they have great degustation menus. They'll definitely prepare you for a lovely surprise :)

“Amazing Food and Excellent Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

Food Society is a fantastic little neighbourhood restaurant, with a wonderful atmosphere; amazing food, and excellent service.

We dined on the six course tasting menu which had a beautiful selection of food for $55. Each and every dish was stunning, and there was nothing that wasn't flavoured and presented to perfection.

Our particular favourites were the Pork Pieroge, the Fried Cauliflower, the Beetroot with Cherries, and the Poached Chicken.

The waiters were all very friendly and professional, and they really made us feel welcome.

We will definitely be back!

“Great food, friendly staff, loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

Great place and atmosphere with friendly staff and, most importantly, very good food. We love Eastern European food anyway and this was an interesting take on it. We tried both types of pierogi, the fried bread and had the chicken and lamb ribs as mains. Fantastic chicken, especially loved the side dish that came with it. The lamb ribs were really nice too, as were the vegetables served with the dish. Great sauce + marinade!

We foolishly ordered dessert as well (we were quite full by that point) and what we managed to eat of the doughnuts and snickers-inspired ice-cream was pretty good too.

Next time we are in the area, we will definitely come back as the combination of great food, friendly staff and lively atmosphere made for a good night out.
