The Bayswater Sydney
Ranked #81 of 179 Hotels in Sydney
Reviewed September 30, 2013

If your looking for a central location in Potts Point or Kings Cross - you can't do any better than the Bayswater. Taxis, train station and buses at your doorstep. We booked a room with no daily room service which kept the costs down. The room itself isn't flashy but offered exactly what we wanted - king bed, shower, tea & coffee, LCD with fox. Will happily stay here agin

Room Tip: Book a room with no room service to keep costs down.

The Bayswater Sydney scores with very affordable rates in a pretty expensive city. I stayed in a deluxe room with cleaning (hotel offers option to skip housekeeping against a lower rate).

It is very noisy at night, even at the rear side. The fact that the windows are old, poorly isolated and do not close completely do not make the situation better, plus there is a constant flow of wind coming through that I really disliked. Nevertheless, the room is comfortable, albeit very small, and the bed is great, even if it eats up 85% of the entire space. Bathroom was tiny yet shower was great.

Liked the fact that there were laundry facilities in the first floor, and also the access to the 24-hour super nice gym was much appreciated.

The neighborhood is not the best, didn't mind so much the folks around Kings Cross, but it is something to keep in mind. However, the close proximity to Darlinghurst was pretty good, plus the entire area had great and relatively cheep food choices.

To sum up, the Bayswater is a good value-for-money choice, if you're ready to put up with noise and limited space. Voila!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear side, but don't expect it to be that much quieter.

We loved the room. Quite a large room. The king bed is too close to the bathroom. Even on a Wednesday night, it is still quite noisy if you booked a room with a balcony facing the road. The reception staffs are very friendly. We managed to get discounted overnight parking which was a great value. Modern simple decor in the room.

The price is right for this hotel. You'll have to pay attention not to miss its entrance, but it's only a 3-min walk to King's Cross station and I had no issues with carrying my luggage myself from airport to hotel room. I felt safe staying here alone, and coming back in the evenings or walking out in the early mornings.
Positives you don't always find in other hotels: Quiet, private, easy check-in with pleasant staff, lift and stairs option, one computer in the comfortable lobby lounge with free internet access, in-room kettle & coffee/tea with mugs (not those tiny teacups), plates & yes, cutlery! (which came in handy after buying food from the supermarket round the corner), mini fridge, hangars. Firm bed. Clean bathroom. Modern decor from lobby to room. Security key pad access after a certain time at night.
The alarm clock in my room wasn't adjusted right (10 mins ahead) which did throw off my schedule one morning quite a bit.
Room is exactly as in the photos shown in other reviews. I had the King bed room with a full length mirror at the end of the bed, a window with a view to a brick wall you can cover with blinds (you don't need the view when you arrive back in your room after dark and it allows a good sleep-in without morning light streaming in), an ottoman to place my bags on.
Plenty of streets to stroll around the area, the big Coca-cola sign at a major traffic intersection is a short-walk away (seems to be a well-known landmark in Sydney). All in all it was a good base to explore Sydney with a low budget. Not as scenic or green than if you stayed around Wynyard/St. James and Woollomaloo areas, but for a good night's sleep near a train station with an ensuite & the things you'd need if you bring food back to your room, I'd recommend this hotel. Booked via Booking.com. Return guests can get discounts/upgrades with their loyalty programme.

We stayed there for 2 nights recently, the hotel is located in the heart of Kings cross, and quite close to the station so pretty good for getting around. We stayed in room 312, we needed an early check in and to be fair the staff pulled out the stops and had us in by 10-30am. On the down side the hotel has a few steps up from the road, not good for hauling suitcases. The room was tiny and we just about fitted our cases in. On the second night we found we had a few ants in the room, the following morning they were all over the place, I told the manager and his response was i will look into it straight away. Not sure if they did. also on the down size for this room was the noise, after 7am there was not much chance of sleep due to bin wagons and builders jackhammers blasting in the background.

Room Tip: Not room 312, my tip would be check the room allocated before you take your luggage up.

Small room, but it is adequate, although there isn’t much space to put your bags. However, it is comfortable and clean. The best feature of The Bayswater is its great location. The train station is only a block away and you are in the middle of Kings Cross, which has a great nightlife. There is plenty of great food within walking distance. Just be aware there is plenty of noise outside, especially during weekends. Overall, good value.

The hotel is located in Kings Cross area, a formerly a not recommended neighbourhood which is now quite fanciful and lively (still some "red light" streets, but also many pubs and restaurants). 10 minutes walking from George street (city centre), well connected. The rooms are tidy and comfortable, altough not particularly wide. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
The only limit that they do not provide guests with free wifi (only 20 minutes from the pc in the hall).
Overall it's a good solution for visiting Sydney on a budget basis.
