“Great location but very small room”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We arrived in Sydney after spending 9 nights in New Zealand and pulling up outside I was impressed with the hotel from outside. The receptionist who booked us in was very friendly and helpful offering to help with our bags. Check in was swift and we were told we were up on the 4th floor, great. We got into the lift (very slow) and then walked to the end of the corridor only to be greeted by a flight of stairs. Not great with 4 heavy bags. Finally we got into the room and was very unimpressed by the size. Yes we did book a small room but didn't realise how small it was going to be. There was very little storage for our suitcases however I didn't let this spoil the whole experience as we would only be sleeping in the room anyway. No free wifi in the rooms but they did have 2 PC's downstairs which did have free access. The shower was great too. The only other downfall was that the windows rattled when the wind picked up so they need looking at. Overall great hotel, friendly staff and great location

Room Tip: If you're there for more than 3 days and plan on using the public transport for sightseeing then...

Thank you for staying with Sydney Lodges at The Bayswater Sydney.

We're happy to hear you generally enjoyed your stay with us. Of course, we do include the room size in metres squared in the room descriptions on our website, so we try to let everyone know that the 'Small Double Rooms' are just 10 or 11 metres squared. If you're after something larger, I would definitely recommend the King Deluxe at 15-18 metres squared or the Executive King Suite at 20+ metres squared.

I do hope you will return in the near future and try some of our larger room types we have available, if space is important to you.

St.Vincents hospital is within walking distance which makes it very convienient, however, one of our main reasons for choosing to stay here is the staff, they have always been very helpful and kind.
The rooms are always very clean and comfortable, although not big they are more than suitable.

We chanced upon this hotel when looking for a reasonable hotel outside of the CBD and close to all the areas we were interested in. The location couldn't be better. A block from Kings Cross train station, with buses to Circular Quay, and Watson's Bay in front of the hotel door, 10 minute walk to Oxford street and to CBD. There are some great, trendy restaurants on Victoria street and throughout Darlinghurst just a few minutes walk away The staff is very friendly and the rooms are OK. An attempt at boutique/design hotel that falls a little flat,( a little too much black and dark furnishings for such small spaces as well as too low wattage bulbs) but the rooms, despite their small size (and they can't be much more than 12-16 sqm) are clean and workable (the bed was very comfy!). Hard to complain for the price compared to other Sydney hotels, ( the other boutique-style Darlinghurst hotels are easily double the price for not that much more and CBD hotels are certainly more for standard rooms). There is free WiFi and complimentary tea/coffee in the lounge area (WiFI in room at extra charge) off reception which is handy if you need to check out and your flight is not until later. We left our bags with them, went out for the afternoon and came back to use the internet, watch TV and hang out while waiting for our shuttle to the airport. I recomend the rooms on the sides as Bayswater and the back lanes can be a bit (really only abit) noisy, and I think they are abit larger although they have no views (windows overlooking a wall about a meter away, but super private. Certainly we will return here on our next trip to Sydney, and I would recomend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: We had a back room on the 4th floor the first time which had not a real view but the windows looked...

Thank you for staying with Sydney Lodges at The Bayswater Sydney.

We love it when guests tell us they would return, it's the best compliment a hotel can wish for. We're so happy to hear you experienced our outstanding customer service as well as the great location of the hotel.

We have recently switched to energy saving lights as part of our environmental strategy however I have noted your comments down about the lights being too dim and will speak to the hotel manager about this. I have also heard other guests mention this so it is definitely something we still need to fine tune.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We do hope you took a 'Guests with Benefits' card with you on your way out so that you can enjoy free WiFi and a discounted rate, as well as many other benefits, the next time you book direct with us.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Very warm welcome. Room very comfortable and hotel in good location. Unfortunately there were no safes in the room / reception but facilities in the communal lounge were great. computers / microwave / bowls etc. Would recommend to anyone looking for reasonable prices accommodation in Sydney. Very good choice of restaurants and bars in Kings Cross and short walk (20 / 30 mins) to the city centre. Hotel is very close the the train station with Coles supermarket 3 min walk. Access to gym but this is not inside the hotel.

I've stayed at several hotels around Kings Cross over the past few years but was pleasantly surprised how warm and welcoming the staff were. It was a refreshing change when I checked-in they had my booking ready, far too many hotels still fail to miss your booking notification when you book online. It was a brilliant start to my stay and a brilliant location with a convenience store next door and walking distance to nightclubs, restaurants and cafes.

The staff were interested in why I was visiting which I explained was for a conference and it was refreshing to see they had enough interest in their guests that they remembered to ask the next day how it went. It was really refreshing to see staff interested and interacting with their guests.

There is a communal lounge area just near the lobby with couches and tables to relax and unwind along with a small kitchen area. I suggest grabbing a bacon & egg roll from Bayswater Bru next door and relaxing with a good book when you stay here.

If you are looking for a short stay boutique hotel right in the middle of that action, this place is both great value and a wonderful place to stay with very high quality finishings.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back and close your blinds for a nice sleepin

Kings Cross on Saturday night can be crazy and very noisy. We were in Sydney for a wedding and the location of this hotel was perfect for us. The room was simple and clean with a very comfortable bed and great bathroom with a walk in shower. There was no view but we were at the back of the building and the best thing was that we were not disturbed by the noise coming from the street on a Saturday night.I strongly urge anyone driving to take advantage of the parking station the hotel recommends. It is a bit of a walk but street parking is very limited in the Cross. There are approx 10 steps from the street up to the lobby of the hotel so if you are a little less able this may be a bit challenging for you. There is a lift from the lobby to the guest rooms. The great thing about staying in the Cross is that there are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance to choose from to have breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back

The thing that stands out the most about the Bayswater is how fantastic their staff were. They were some of the most helpful and courteous staff I have ever had. They went out of their way to help me out with tourist sites, transit maps, airport shuttles and more. They are what made the experience memorable.

The hotel is nice and clean and good value for the money. The rooms are basic but modern and clean. The location is in a trendy, yet rowdy, area called Kings Cross but is close to all the major attractions Sydney has to offer. (I wouldn't recommend this location for families though).

Near the hotel is Coles Grocery store, the subway line, the tourist hop-on bus, convenience stores, lots of food choices and much more. You definitely do NOT need a car if you stay at this location.

The room that I had was quite compact and small, but you don't spend much time in the room when you are in Sydney. Some travellers might find it too compact, but that just means they should get out more. The bathrooms was very nice with modern fixtures and nice hot water. Windows were big and let in lots of light. There aren't any views to be had at this hotel so you need to get out and explore.

My only complaint about the hotel was that it does not have free WiFi. It still blows my mind that hotels charge for WiFi. If you need to, just include it in the price. It is $10 / day, FYI.

In general the hotel was very good and I would stay there again, if even just because of the staff. If you make it to Sydney this would be a good choice for places to stay.

Room Tip: There aren't any rooms with views at this hotel. The back of the hotel is a bit less noisy but...
