Sydney taxi drivers don't believe there's an Ash Street because you can't drive down it, so ask them to drop you at Angel Place and George Street. This small block has been stunningly renovated by the John & Merivale group who seem to have spent money without regard to a commercial return. It would have been easy to build a highrise office block here, but instead they've created a nightlife hub that revolves around the bistros and restaurants in Ash Street and the nightclub and bars of Ivy upstairs. Bistro Felix could be in Manhattan's SoHo, Paris' Pigalle, Shanghai's Bund or Milano's Galleria - and it would be just as successful and popular. The wine list and service was great, the food was remarkably varied for a bistro and of top quality, it was pricey but not outrageous, and the location and ambience are fabulous. Well worth it for people watching and a chance for ladies to dress up - or not, it's up to you.
