For the past three years I have stayed at quite a few hostels around the World and I can definitely say that this is one of the best of all of them. It's ideal for young backpackers who want to spend as little time as possible in the hotel, and as much time outside exploring the city or partying, but who appreciate a clean and modern place to stay. However, if you want more privacy or peace & quiet, or are older or traveling with a kid, this is most likely not the place for you.

This hostel has the best location in Kings Cross, right at Kings Cross train station. The train line it's just one stop to Sydney's CBD and a couple stops to Bondi Juction (to Bondi Beach). Convenience stores, 24/7 restaurants for every budget, many bars, and a supermarket where we bought food for our dinners are within a 5-minute walk.
It is a big hostel, a solid building (most of the others hostel in the area are old sound houses). It has 3 floors but not elevator (the only downside I found) We first stayed in a 6 bed dorm, quite dark, modern, and spotless. Then, in a 4 bed dorm overlooking the street, not large, but new and clean. The windows are double glazed and even it did get a little noisy at night outside, as the area was very busy, we always slept well. The bathrooms are modern, very clean, and have a strong hot shower, not so common from my experience.
Downstairs there is a well equipped kitchen, eating area and social lounge. There is a small library of travel books available for reference in the lobby. Free wifi also worked really well. We met many people at their free BBQ and free wine Friday.

The staff were brilliant, they were both laid-back and helpful at the same time. It's a family-owned business and you can tell they love what they do. Probably the best staff I have encountered in 3 years travelling, just have a short chat with them and you will understand what I mean. They are young warm friendly people.

I have stayed in both the Kings Cross and Mission Beach hostels. I stayed at Jackaroo in Kings Cross over the Christmas and New year period and couldn't have wished for a better hostel. It was very social with nights out and BBQ's organised by the staff which was a great way to meet new people. Staff were always at reception to help give tips on whats good to see and do in Sydney which was helpful. You get free wifi and breakfast which I think is quite rare and the hostel was always very clean. Of a Friday you get free wine (it can get a bit messy) but was always a good night. The Mission Beach hostel has all the same perks of Kings Cross but instead is like living in a giant tree house in the rainforest. It's very relaxing, always clean and the staff are really friendly. Its a little further out than some of the other hostels in Mission Beach but I think this is better as you really get a feel for the place, plus there is a shuttle bus that runs in and out of town all day for free if you need it, I found the bus drivers were pretty cool too. Both hotels have everything you'd ever need.

I stayed here for 3 weeks over Christmas and it was great! Loads of activities and a couple of free bbq's. Every Friday you get free wine (yes actual wine, not goon)!

The kitchen is well equipped and there is a nice roof terrace. The hostel is also kept really clean all the time.

There is also free wi fi which is a great bonus when in australia, as it's normally very expensive. It also works in your room.

The hostel is located in kings cross which is a big backpacker area in Sydney. It's also got a fair few strip clubs, but I wouldn't say its dangerous, it's no where near as bad as people make out. The hostel is literally next door to the train station or you can walk into central Sydney.

Really nice, social hostel. Would definitely recommend!

Hostel is in middle of nowhere so they offer a free shuttle bus. However, they still let us walk 15mins in the pitch black to the nearest bar... And then were pure ignorant when we rang to be collected at 10pm (the locals told us not to walk back as was too dangerous) It was literally a 5 min drive for them. Cool hostel but staff have a serious attitude problem!!!
