We arrived at about 7.45pm and were told that the restaurant was full - but that if we waited for 40 mins at the pub across the road they would call us when our table was ready. We waited for an hour - no call. So we went accross to the resaurant, and were told to wait 30 mins more. We waited - and after another 40 mins got the call to come accross. We were then told that dinner had finshed, and we could only order from the bar menu! Oh, and were asked if we could wait at the bar for another 20 mins or so because they were no longer sure our table was available. We left without eating, and had to find another restaurant approaching 10pm.

Seriously. It's fine if you can't get patrons in, we get you are busy. Just don't waste 7 ppls night - tell the truth and we would have been happy to come back on another occasion.

Very tapas-like, Mexico is really enjoyable to dine at. They have the great guava sodas, magaritas, and great dishes with fresh ingredients. you don't have that stodgy heavy feeling after you've eaten.
The DIY Guacamole is my favourite!
Pricing is mid and dishes are to share. we ordered about 5 to share between the 2 of us. totally coming back!

We've been to this restaurant a few times now and happily return. The food is very good, nice sharing sized plates or you can have your own main and side dishes. The staff are attentive and careful in their attention to detail. One of us has a food allergy and the kitchen were helpful in sorting through the meals that could be ordered. The quail eggs and the steak tartare are great. order the bread and you get a huge piece of tasty sourdough with olive oil, a nice way to start the night.

As we were travelling that evening we did not have time for a long dinner but the restaurant was able to give us a speedy service.
It was pleasant inside, a change from the cold Sydney night outside and the staff were friendly and good. Admittedly at that hour the customers had not started to arrive.
Dishes were different from the norm and to enjoy them more they were all shared around. The Quail eggs and Crispy Courgette Flowers etc were popular. I forgot to copy the menu details so I forget the other dishes.
As we were guests I don't know the total cost but it seemed to be middle of the road, not bad for its location and presentation.
There is an outside eating area but only the hardy would use it during winter.

District Dining is a 1 minute walk from Central Station Sydney, NOT a smart area at all. But the restaurant is very smart inside and very pleasant. The piece de resistance was one of the entrees - quail eggs with a slightly crunchy exterior and a delicious molten interior. Yum. Pigs ears were OK but a bit chewy, school prawns with lime mayonnaise were good and crunchy. The deserts were superb - I had rhubarb and strawberry crumble - with the best crunchiest crumble I've ever had which the very helpful waitress told me how it was made.
