Our all day tour included both the Wildlife refuge and Blue Mountain. Nigel was a fantastic guide, who look the time to connect with everyone on the trip. He is passionate about both the area and the history of the region in a way that is fun and engaging. (With over 19+ years as a guide, it’s no wonder he knows all the best places!) He showed us unforgettable views, navigated us through several local trails and made every stop an adventure! From waterfalls, to soaring overlooks, to the Three Sisters, the hikes were spectacular and manageable for the whole group. I would highly recommend booking a trip with Nigel for a fantastic time in the Blue Mountains. This was one of the highlights of my time in Sydney.

Thanks heaps for sharing your thoughts on your recent Blue Mountains Day Trip with Nigel. We're so glad to hear you had a great day, and that Nigel looked after you. He is a wealth of knowledge, and loves sharing his years of experience with locals and travelers alike. It's also great to hear you appreciated all that The Blue Mountains has to offer. It's an area larger than some small countries, filled with hikes, views and waterfalls, and we do try to highlight them as best we can in a short amount of time.
Cheers

For the benefit of those considering this tour, here are few things I'd like to highlight from my experience:

- Featherdale wildlife park certainly did not live up to expectations, and is indeed a "glorified coffee stop", as aptly described by our tour guide himself. It is a small, run-down zoo (not at all a park) with cramped enclosures, and animals showing clear signs of stress such as non-stop pacing.

- The tour only stops at 1 lookout - Echo Point. If you are keen to explore the many other lookouts around Katoomna and its surrounds, a better option may be a tour without the wildlife park stop, or spending the night in katoomba and exploring on your own.

- The "bushwalk" or "hike" only brings you to the bottom on the valley where the Scenic World train operates. It is on a well-trodden route that you could explore on your own if you wanted to. Perhaps some visitors may enjoy the running commentary on flora, fauna and aboriginal culture from the tour guide, but personally I would have far preferred if the "bushwalk" could have taken us elsewhere away from the beaten tourist path (even if it were to be a short walk).

- Our tour guide, Billy, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and ran the tour very efficiently. However, I did notice that he was somewhat friendlier to guests from western countries and did not really interact much with myself and another girl from Korea during the tour and commentary. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, that perhaps he was unfamiliar with the culture of Asian countries and was trying to avoid being politically incorrect, but it did made me feel excluded to an extent. I happened to go on another tour with a different company the following day, and although the guide did not shout out as much to "XX from UK!" or "xx from the US!!", he still did manage to create a very upbeat and friendly atmosphere on the tour, which I enjoyed thoroughly.

Overall, I am giving this tour 3 stars as it delivered on its promises, but certainly did not go above and beyond. There are other better options available if you seek then out.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent day trip to The Blue Mountains with Billy. We're sorry you feel you did not experience a 5 star day, and that you feel you experienced some cultural insensitivity on the day from one of our guides. This is quite disturbing for us to hear, as all of our guides are well trained in cultural diversity, and Billy is one of the friendliest guides out there. We are sure it was unintentional on his part, and he will feel quite mortified when we raise this issue with him, but please rest assured, we will raise it with all of our guides, and remind them of the importance of inclusion of all cultures on our tours. With regards to the itinerary, we do try to pack in as much as possible in the limited time we have in The Blue Mountains, but you are correct, in that there are numerous walks and hikes, ranging in required fitness levels to be able to complete. The walks we take our groups on are not too easy, nor strenuous, and take in the best views of the valley, waterfalls and rock formations, whilst providing an insight into the different landscapes, including rain forests, and local Australian flora and fauna. We agree that the best way to experience The Blue Mountains, is to stay one or two nights, which is why we also include very competitive overnight accommodation as part of our tour packages. We are also surprised to hear you did not enjoy your visit to Featherdale Wildlife Sanctuary, as this has proven to be a highlight for most of our guests. The animals you mentioned are mostly rescued injured native Australian animals, that would not survive in the wild, for numerous reasons. The ultimate aim is always rehabilitation and release, but sometimes, it is better for the animals to live out their lives in captivity. The stop also breaks up the 2 hour + journey to The Blue Mountains, and is usually greatly appreciated by our guests. We do hope you are able to get back to The Blue Mountains to explore some treks more suited to your personal tastes.

Thanks for the 5 star review Rebecca. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the day, and that Featherdale Wildlife Sanctuary was a standout for you, along with the 3 Sisters rock formation, and your hike to one of the many waterfalls in the area.

This was a great tour. The weather was threatening but Gaz was prepared to adapt the schedule to the weather. We had a small group making it feel personable. Featherdale was great and we beat the crowds making it even more enjoyable. The weather held most of the day but eventually the clouds descended and the rain came, but Gaz kept spirits high and packed in lots of shorter hikes to other places. He was incredibly knowledgeable and a great story teller. I learned so much about the area as well as the history of Australia. It was like having a smart friend take you around their hometown. He made the tour. I would highly recommend this tour especially if you want to interact with nature and not just ride a bus all day.

Thank you so much for your glowing review of The Blue Mountains with Gaz. Wet weather days can be challenging, and as you know, we have no control over mother nature, so we're thrilled to hear that you had a great time, and appreciated the adapted itinerary, in spite of the rain. There is something quite special about walking through a rain forest in the rain.
Cheers
