2-Day Sydney Surf Camp Adventure to Seal Rocks

So much fun! I'd recommend waves because the staff obviously love and know surfing. The lessons are easy to follow because our instructor JJ gave us instructions in small chunks so you weren't overwhelmed, he could tell what you were doing wrong and give you tips to help you stand up sooner and for longer. You could tell that he, and all the other staff, really loved what they did, and wanted to share their love of surfing with everyone else.

Another great thing was the relaxed vibe, there weren't heaps of rules, everyone was trusted to be grown up and do their own thing. After surfing you could relax, swim in the pool, have a beer by the lake and watch the sunset, keep on drinking, or get some shut-eye and save your energy for the next day.

The other awesome thing was the location. All of the beaches were amazing, the camp is between a beach and a lake, so there are lots of great spots where you can chill and watch the stars (which there are heaps of, because it's far from the light pollution of the city). Be warned though, being next to the lake means lots of mozzies, so bring your insect repelant.

Hi Olivia,

Thanks for your kind review. We do our best to please. It's not hard when we are working with what we love! Regarding the mozzies, I apologize for the inconvenience - but you are right, a bit of insect repellent does wonders.

Regards,

Olivia

Just arrived back from the camp, and the one, most fitting word to summarize the feeling I have now is...AWSOME!!! :D their is actually nothing at all to complain about, the food was great, the instructors was skilled at learning out, and they put a huge amount of effort to make sure everyone learnd and had a pleasant/fun/happy/enjoyable/crazy time :D , the accomodation was good and close to the beach (where we sat during the night by the fire, playing guitar, drinking beer and watch the amazing view over the sky with all the stars :) higly recommend waves! Thank you all who made this days!! going to miss you all :)

Just spent the weekend in glorious Seal Rocks, surfing with the Waves Surf School.
The camp is small dorm rooms situated in a lodge with a pool .... smack bang between a beauitful beach and one of the great lakes. I went with 3 friends and we had a 6 bed dorm to ourselves and next door was 4 others in a 6 bed dorm- at least we weren't crammed into a 12 bed room like another surf trip i've been on. Facilities are pretty decent. Hot, powerful showers (important!).
When we arrived on Friday night, we all chilled out on the beach by moonlight for a while.
Relaxed wake up call about 8.30am on Saturday for brekkie and then off to the beach. There is a beach out front that is sometimes used, but I appreciated that we took a 30 min drive to find a beach where the surf was perfect for our group. plus, got to check out more of the area and the gorgeous lakes. There are about 4 or 5 beaches facing different directions, so we were able to find one with offshore wind and glassy conditions.
Surf instructors were great... they spent time coaching on the sand and then stayed in the water so they could set you off on the best waves if you needed their help (i did) or you could just give it a shot on your own if feeling confident. After failing last time i took a surf trip, i managed to stand up and surf to shore.... yeeeewwwwwww- thanks Harley!
In the evening we were back at camp with plenty of time to shower, chill out and check out the gorgeous lake that backs onto the camp. There's also a small pool if you fancy a dip.
Took a paddle board out onto the lake at sunset, which was unreal. I also checked out the lake at night and it has phosporescence/ bioluminescence from the organisms in it, which made it a worthwhile trip alone... how often do you get to see that! :)
In the evening we ate dinner together and drank... although there were a few people in our group that didnt drink- everyone was happy hanging out together. Instructor Rob did some awesome songs on his guitar and the food was delicious - thanks Brett!
Sunday morning we again had relaxed breakfast and headed out to the beach. The surf was a little rougher, but the instructors were able to get us out through the waves safely and everyone enjoyed it... felt like we were riding huge waves! Awesome! definitely caught the surfing bug!
Overall, this was a great weekend and for $239 including accomodation, delicious food, surfing, awesome instructors, bus drivers, etc.... i am not actually sure how they make any money! Well worth it.... Definitely going again!
