We stayed at the Royal Exhibition three nights, including New Years Eve 2011. We arrived early and the staff allowed us to stow our luggage while we toured the city. The location is great-walking distance to Central train station, which makes getting around a breeze. Distance to airport about 10 minutes and distance to all the attractions about 10 minutes. Multiple trains go to the Central train station stop, so no worries finding the right train. Check-in is at the bar downstairs. We didn't find the room noisy, but we always wear earplugs to sleep-even at home. My husband had hurt his knee and the bar staff downstairs provided an ice bag each night. A good value if you want to get away from the touristy area of The Rocks & Circular Quay.

The location of the hotel is fairly good - easy walking distance to many attractions. Also, the room is of good size. But when it comes to sleeping, this was probably the worst place I've ever stayed at.

Our room had windows to the street. As there are some 24h pubs located down the street, there was constant noise on Thu and Fri nights until late. The windows are very thin and every passing truck will be very easy to hear.

The cleaner started vacuum cleaning the floor at 8am in the morning with the noisiest vacuum cleaner so no possibility for sleeping in - the noise was very loud in the room.

Also the noises from the corridor and sometimes even from other rooms can be clearly heard. This makes it feel like there was no privacy at all.

Also, there were problems with electricity twice - the room had a total blackout.

So if you party until late and don't mind getting up early, perhaps you will enjoy your stay. For others, I recommend avoiding this place.

A combination of bistro, pub and hotel, the place is placed directly in front of Central Station, which makes it very practical if you need to catch a train early in the morning.

Be aware however that a lot of people going out on weekend nights go back home in a train, so the surroundings can get a little busy and noisy.

Our second floor room was quite quiet, but it was also in bad need of a full restoration. Picture stained carpets and a general air of weariness.

Good for one night, if you need to be close to the station to catch a train.

We arrived on July 29, 2011. We took the train from the airport and loved the location right away - you walk right out the front door into Central Station. It was confusing at first where we check in, but they were friendly and helped us right at the bar. They then showed us up to our room (#8), which was located on the second floor beside the elevator. The doors are operated with a cool keyless entry - you just swipe it and the doors unlock.

The room itself was small, but we don't require a lot of space. It was equipped with an electric kettle, a mini-fridge and a TV mounted on the wall. There was also a desk, two chairs and an armoire. The bathroom was large and renovated, one of our favorite parts! We loved the shower! The only downside to the room was its proximity to the staff entrance to the upstairs bar. We could hear them going in and out a lot and it got kind of noisy at night. The walls weren't that thick.

Overall, we had a great experience. It was comfortable and we enjoyed our time. We only wished they served food sooner than 6pm! The area was great and had plenty of food options down the street, plus tons of other bars to check out. Again, we loved how close it was to Central Station, you just can't beat that.

This was actually cheaper than a lot of hostels in Syndey.
The staff were friendly and let us store our luggage for free on our leaving day. The bar felt like a local, and didn't affect our sleep at all.
Very clean and comfy beds.
