It is a very nice and clean hostel in a good location.

However, the hostel charges you the price of a hotel, but with only the services of a hostel.

We took a double room with private bathroom and we were surprised that no amneties were provided with the room.

To be fare, the hostel is very clean, and I have to admit that the location is unbeatable. But then again Sydney is a very walkable city, and a hotel (not hostel) around George street (10 minutes walk to Circular Quay) is much cheaper and more centrally located. YHA charges us 150 AUD per night, but on our next stay in Sydney we looked a bit and found better hotels around 89 AUD. In addition, if you are around George Street instead of CIrcular Quay you are more centrally located, as you will be at equal distances from the quay, Darling harbour, and chinatown.

As for the terrace with view on Opera House, the terrace is overrated, and you could get the same view from rooftop of the Museum of Modern Art (free entrance).

I have enjoyed my stay at this hostel, but just because I found it expensive compared to similar choices, I advice you to shop around before you choose it.

Room Tip: If you're only crashing for a couple of night, choose the rooms with shared bathroom, since anyw...

I left after 5 days still gazing at wonderful view on hostel rooftop area of bridge, opera house, harbour and city skyline. Amazing. And to have $5 barbies up there is also great. The location is marvellous and surprisingly not all that noisy considering its location. The staff are great. Yes $42 makes it relatively expensive for dorm bed but the location, the view, the cleanliness, the friendly and helpful staff - it is definitely worth it. Security is excellent and absolutely no unwanted noise at night from other guests during my 4 night stay. It's a pleasant 25 minute walk to 50m Andrew Boy Charlton outdoor swimming pool harbourside in Woolloomoolloo. The 'Boy' is in my opinion (I've swum in a lot of them over past 40 years) the best swimming pool in Australia.

Architecturally interesting, open, airy and modern. This hostel was perfect for our holiday in the Rocks. Although located right near the harbour bridge, it was incredibly quiet in our double room (we were on the harbour/circular quay side of the hostel). The Rocks area was a lovely place to chill in Sydney. Right next to the Sydney Observatory, Bridge and Pylon climb, Circular Quay, Ferries, Opera House and City centre and of course its in the heart of the Rocks.

The hostel staff were amazing and helpful, the 'make your own breakfast' options available from the reception desk/cafe proved to be a real hit (and great value), and saved us buying excess groceries just for a couple of breakfasts. The evening $5 mexican wrap was also greatly appreciated (as we had spent so much money, a cheap dinner was great).

Our room was basic but very comfortable and clean. Only issue was easily accessed power points for recharging phones (had to do it under the table or in the bathroom).

Price may be an issue for some. For two adults and a child the cost of our room was the same as an average to basic, hotel, but the hostel still wins out with the cheap breakfasts and dinners, people friendly atmosphere, fantastic location and lovely staff.

Its more of a budget hotel for sharing the place was so nice. Theres a pub next door but you wouldnt know, no noise at all. Its not in a 24 hours club area anyway. The staff were nice, the ensuits are great, same with the fact that we each got a light next to our beds. Very clean. The area it is in is great for history. There wearnt any "yahoos" drunks or weirdos, not that this hostel seems to allow that anyway. So its great for mature people, families and people who have come to Sydney to see the beautiful sights. Its not a party hostel but there are social activites for those interested including a rooftop bbq. If you like a nice quiet place but also want to be social this is the place to be. Unlike other hostels, I got heaps of sleep. Its in such a nice area.

Perfect location, friendly staff, nice rooms (mostly with shower en suite), a incredible full equipped kitchen, a breathtaking view from the terrace, new, clean...what else?

The only issue Is the price: rather expensive for the european standarts but, this is Sidney...

Room Tip: Some rooms have views over the Opera

I missed out on youth hostelling when I was a youth and now as a 43yr old approached my stay at Sydney YHA with some trepidation. My fears were unfounded as I was not the oldest person there and I would say families outnumbered youths, although this may be different during summer.
The family room we stayed in was basic in appearance but spotlessly clean and more importantly the bed was comfortable and the shower hot. There was plenty of storage space and several large storage cupboards which could be looked with your own padlock.
We didn’t hear much noise from other guests and after 10pm the place was virtually silent.
The location is superb; from the sundeck area you can see both the harbour bridge and the Opera House. If you arrive too late to buy your breakfast provisions the reception provides several types of breakfast at very reasonable prices including a cook your own fry-up.
The reception is open 24hrs and access at night is only available by your room key.

I stayed in a 6 share dorm. The hostel generally quite clean, not immaculate but good enough and it had an awesome view from the roof terrace of the Opera House and harbour. The staff were very friendly and offered me a shower when I arrived early as I couldn't check in until after 2pm. The rooms are quite pricey but the hostel is new, modern, in a great location. The lockers are cheap to rent as is the breakfast and evening meals. My only complaint is that the staff didn't seem to have much knowledge about what was on that week in Sydney just general knowledge about the city as a whole. The tourist information centre in the Rocks was much more helpful. Highly recommend the Bike Buffs Cycle Tour - Great way to see Sydney and it leaves from close to the YHA!
