Spending my 30th birthday weekend in Sydney, I decided it was only appropriate to dine at my favourite Japanese restaurant; Sake.

I booked on OpenTable and requested a table for two as it was for a birthday (rather than communal seating)… ask and you shall receive! 

My husband and I shared a lovely meal including; wagyu dumplings, prawn popcorn, teriyaki chicken, steamed rice, edamame beans and a chocolate sensation dessert. All the food was lovely and very well presented. The staff took note from my booking and actually added some candles to our dessert which was a nice touch! 

The vibe is the restaurant is very charismatic and the staff are all very attentive.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant if travelling to Sydney – located in The Rocks, you will not be disappointed!

Popcorn shrimp, prawn dumplings, amazing sushi rolls. Wish we had been able to visit twice. Not cheap but worth the money.

Great food and wine list. Green tea influenced desserts are great. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in Sydney right now.

Sake was just how I imagined it to be. Fun, energetic, great service and delicious food. Literally didn't even remember to take any photos as I was mesmerised by the presentation. We ordered
- dumpling duo of steamed wagyu beef and prawn shumai with Ponzu sauce.
- Kingfish Jalapeño with coriander sashimi
- tuna ceviche dressed in lemon, coriander and fried onions
- White soy snapper sashimi in white soy dressing
- eel nigiri

Favs were the kingfish which was silky soft and a light sauce topped with spicy slices of jalapeño and fresh coriander.

Absolutely loved the orange flowers that were spotlighted throughout the restaurant.

Despite the food I had two major disappointments. The first being the bathrooms which were in horrendous shape and the second was despite being named sake- there were only two options for hot sake! Both quite pricy.

With so many amazing sushi restaurants it's hard to say if I'll be back. But great for large parties!

Buzzy place that takes its food very seriously. Superb salt and pepper tofu followed by wagyu brisket which I absolutely loved - perfect. The dessert wasn't so great (although it looked fab) - I had the white chocolate and liquid nitrogen dragon egg - which in my view was too sweet and all about presentation rather than substance. The liquid nitrogen was a gimmick which added nothing intrinsically.
