Spent one night only. A last minute booking, this was the only one available. $150 on wotif for a room with shared bathroom. The bed was OK apart from a long brown hair on the sheet (BLEAH). The noise from outside was just too much. It was like sleeping at a traffic light. Not mentioning the noise of a sort of compressor or something (maybe AC, maybe fridges) coming from somewhere inside the hotel. When the alarm clock rang in the morning, it was a relief!

Room Tip: If you really want to go there, ask for a room not facing a street.

Dear Robbiellaria,

Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to review our hotel following your recent stay.

I am disappointed and sorry that not enough care was given to making the bed in your room prior to your arrival and that a long hair was not detected by the supervisory staff when checking the room.

Not all our rooms in the hotel face onto a street but all them do have double glazing, though we are right at the heart of the city and from time to time you can hear that heart beat.

I would hope we could have another opportunity to look after you on a return visit to Sydney.

Best regards,

We stayed at the Y Hotel on two separate occasions for a total of a week during our trip to Sydney.
Each time we received the same great service.
The rooms were an adequate size with plenty of wardrobe space and towels provided.
The shared bathrooms were always clean, with shampoo and shower gel available.
The breakfast which is free was extremely handy and there is the option to upgrade.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially a young man on reception that greeted us first name terms each time we walked past!
Internet access is also available which came in handy.
The location was brilliant and within walking distance from all the main sites and harbours.
I would definitely recommend Y Hotel and would stay there again with no hesitation.

I was in Sydney for a course and booked a single room/shared facilities. The location was excellent, close to the college, the train station and the CBD. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was just across the hall. The breakfast, which was included in the price was adequate, and up grades like eggs and bacon, fruit salad and yogurt were available. The Cappuccino I bought was very good. The staff were very helpful and polite. My only complaint would be the water pressure and difficulty in adjusting the temperature in the showers. Otherwise it was great, I will definitely be staying here again.

Unfortunately, upon arrival at our Sydnay hotel for that part of our Honeymoon, we were told that our room had been double booked and so they had moved us to a none en-suite (Box) room, barely big enough to fit our luggage into. This was for the first of our three nights in the hotel and we moved (weren't moved, we had to move everything ourselves) to our actual room the next day. This room, although actually en-suite and so not having to use the hall public toilets/showers, was better than the last and slightly more spacious, however, there was what seemed to be mould on the walls and the blinds left gaps at the side for any of the opposite rooms to look through at night (we hung towels blocking these... well, we were on honeymoon!)
One morning, we went down for breakfast (at the start of the given time, as we had an early tour booked), alas, there was nothing open, so I asked (what seemed to be a manager) at reception and unlike the other receptionists who were at least pleasant and friendly, told me the opening time of breakfast as if I was stupid, despite it being now past that time and the dining area still not being open? We waited another 5-10mins for it to finally open, where we swiftly ate a small breakfast (not much offered for the B&B without paying extras) and headed out.
The only up side for this hotel was the location, right next to Hyde Park and major bus routes, oh and the shuttle service (not free) to/from the airport.
If you are a business traveller or a group (like the young sports team that were there when we were) then this hotel is probably ok for you, if, however, you are a couple or maybe even a family - certainly if you are on your honeymoon, I would seriously avoid!
Now here's a little tip for the Y hotel - in other countries, if a honeymooning couple write 'honeymoon' on their booking form etc... or even tell you at reception when booking in, the hotel usually makes a fuss, or leaves some flowers, chocs or wine in the room as a gesture! This is something that didn't happen to us once, which is a shame, however, everything else about Aus made up for it thankfully and that's a credit to Aussies in general, not to the accomodation industry!

Room Tip: Ask for one that at least has a toilet!

Dear JPAshman,
My first impulse after reading your comments is to apologise for a series of mishaps that should not have happened whilst you stayed with us.
It is customary for us to acknowledge a honeymoon couple and the importance of this event in their lives with a gesture, and our Cafe opens at the appointed time. But on this occasion we did not pick up on your comments on arrival and our Cafe kept you waiting for a while; and I am sorry we did not meet those expectations.
The room you stayed in has, since receiving your comments, been inspected and issues remedied.
Very few hotels have breakfast included in their rates and guests have generally commented very positively about the light breakfast buffet we offer.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your wife my best wishes for a happy life together.
Warm regards,
Jean-Claude Niederer

We stayed in Y hotel for 6 weeks and I found that it had everything you need in a hotel- 24 hr service desk, absolutely delicious breakfast which was continental but if you pay a few dollars you can get an English breakfast which I thought was reasonable. The rooms were very clean and were cleaned on a regular basis. I noticed that each bed even had an allergy mat on top of the mattress which was very good for allergy sufferers. The bed linen was always very clean as was the bathroom( I had a shared bathroom which was perfectly reasonable). There was a fridge in the room which we found very handy! Also there was a kitchen and laundrette also both very useful! The location was superb- a 10min walk from central station and a 2 min walk from museum station. The area I felt was safe as well. I would particularly commend the hotel staff who were extremely friendly, helpful and professional especially two of guys who worked behind the desk- Loic and Monish. I would definitely recommend Y hotel without a doubt!!

My husband and I stayed here last week for five nights. We had a twin ensuite room, which was small but more than adequate as we planned on being out most of the time and used for sleeping and storage. The room was cleaned and serviced each day of our stay. We thought that the breakfast was great - the continental, (toast, cereal, croissants etc) or the cooked, which I had a couple of times, was very nice. One of the best things about this hotel is the staff. We found the desk staff so helpful about what was going on in Sydney and able to suggest restaurants and give advice about transport.
