We nearly didn't go due to some recent negative views but having now been, feel that some previous reviewers just don't like change. We experienced excellent food and attentive service in the restaurant area and had a wide range of craft beers to choose from in the bar area.

I used to love this place. Great food and a great pint of Guinness. It was the perfect "local". But new owners have changed the feel and Guinness has been replaced with $9 a schooner craft beer. It is a shame...Goodbye Welcome. At least we have our memories...

Have been to The Welcome a couple of times in the past and loved the comfort Irish themed food. Went today with the expectation of some bangers and mash or rissoles and found the menu totally different. Closest item was sausage with polenta :-( Food was ok interior has lost its charm. Probably won't be coming back.

It pains me to say, but I don't like the Welcome any more.

I have been an on and off regular at this pub and restuarant for nearly 20 years. We actually remember when the current dining room was created and we used to live 200 metres away.

It was my favourite peninsula pub and i kept going back even when we moved closer to other local watering holes. But no more.

The bar is empty and devoid of its old hum and bustle, the drinks are expensive and the service poor. Although a new barmaid the other night was trying the hardest I have seen in a while.

The food is pretty average. It had got tired on the previous ownership, but you got what you expected. It now tries to be something a bit more fashionable and fails.

This is a hard review to write. On one hand I've read the reviews and can understand some of the difficulties here in not really feeling this restaurant fits it's surroundings, but in fairness based on our experience it was a 'jolly good night'. The service couldn't have been faulted and the food was a cut above pub fare.

The 4 of us chose just to have mains with two sides as the prices seemed a tad expensive and this was just a casual night out. Two of us had the Hapuka ($36)and thoroughly enjoyed it. Usually I don't like mussels but the accompanying ones here were small and succulent with some very tiny vegetables and crab meat on a beautifully presented dish. My husband says he ordered badly. The beef flank was a fatty dish but the meat when you got there was lovely and he concedes probably needed the fat to make the meat tasty. Had he realised he may not have gone that direction although other options of Pork belly and Duck, along with the above fish and a vego dish meant he was struggling with options.

This is not pub food, it's carefully and skilfully executed, but slightly small on servings and slightly big on prices (except for dessert which at $12 was not only reasonable but the pannacotta was delightful). We all loved the sides of kipfler potatoes and a fennel salad and would do those again in a heartbeat. If totally clean plates is a sign of good food then this got the seal. It wasn't a busy night on a Anzac Day eve so I think they might be struggling to 'get it right' here. The very ordinary restaurant down the road was packed to the rafters so perhaps a bit more brain storming, a few lower prices and a couple of other options is needed to fine tune and keep everyone happy.
