Ibis Sydney King Street Wharf
Ranked #99 of 181 Hotels in Sydney
Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I visited Sydney recently for our wedding anniversary and decided to stay here as it was well located to Darling Harbour and seemed well priced (compared to the likes of the Novatels in close proximity)

The rooms are very small and we faced directly onto the highway (see photo). While there was double glazed windows we could still see the traffic racing past. Check in was a lengthy process with the girl lecturing us on all the do's and don'ts of our stay -- and trying to upsell to add on breakfast.

The fridge in our room didn't work and if you wanted a warm shower then there was no shower pressure.

Oh - and no where on site to leave feedback -- fill in the slip of paper and they will email you there feedback.... Doesn't happen.

To finish on a positive they do have arrangements with the Nick's restaurants so they do offer a charge back service along with a 5% voucher.

Next time will pay the additional and stay at the Novatel.

Dear Traveller,

Thanks for your feedback on Trip Advisor. Our customer service program is quite comprehensive and all guests who either fill in the slip or do not opt out at checkin are sent a Medallia feedback form. We receive 100's of pieces of solicited feedback through our Medallia program each month. If an opt out or an incorrect email are provided these will be prohibitive factors to sending out the invite for feedback. Im glad you found our relationship with one of the many fantastic restaurants in our are a positive.

Thanks and kind Regards Steve

Stayed in the hotel overnight on 17 Oct 2012, I come from the UK and its my second time in austraila and also second time in Sydney, First impressions of the hotel was nice and friendly, and thats where it ended, went in the lift to floor 7 and entered the hallway to a dark uninviting purple corridor, our hotel room was what i would class as cheap and not so very cheerful, bathroom = sit on the toilet and hey the door with a mirror looking back at you saying I know what your doing!!!! , then enter the shower, and your greeted with a few mildew friends. Main suite = fridge..... with nothing in it, blinds that when pulled down you cant see out, super!! but eveyone can see in!!! No safe for money, passports etc, which is standard in every hotel, one seat in the room, hello it was a room for two. Bed was ok, However went down for drinks and a barmaid, which i can only assume was having an off day, was not so welcoming and was told she was about to close up..... hey it was only 9 oclock at night,
In total for it being in the centre of one the most beautiful cities in the world, I was totally disappointed for the quality of the accomodation, as i have been in a few hotels in the world I would rate this as a 3 star at best, take note ibis,Sydney as for the prices you are charging they certainly DO NOT reflect the standards expected!!!!

Dear Traveller.

Thankyou for writting a post on Trip Advisor. You hit the nail on the head, we are a 3.5 star hotel. We do offer fridges in the rooms for customer service but do not have a mini bar facility. All of our rooms have safes located in them, they are located in the wardrobe. All rooms are also fitted with 2 blinds per room, 1 light allowing blind and 1 full block out blind, hence the 2 chains on the wall. I was pleased to read that you encountered some of our great team, they certainly work hard at delivering on the guest experience.
Thanks again and safe travels.

Regards Steve

Modern clean hotel in a great location to Darling Harbour and Wynyard.

If you are on transit to a cruise liner, Darling Harbour is walking distance to the P&O wharf.

Staff are friendly and efficient and go out of their way to make stay enjoyable.

We booked the hotel for one night for a dinner in the city. The rooms are the smallest rooms I have ever seen, there is no way of walking around the room with someone else there. When either my wife or I needed to maove around, one had to sit on the bed.

Our room was right next to the freeway and despite the double glazing on the windows it is very noisy. To cap it all off, the TV didn't work and the air conditioning was also off. When we checked out, we were told that the air conditioning units were old and frequently broke down.

That was information the clerk should have kept to himself, no offer of any credit/meal/refund, would not have satyed there again anyway.

I don't care if the small room and noisy location was something (a) I didn't care about or (b) the price reflected it. For what we were charged, neither should have been an issue. A real dissapointment.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the Western Side, away from the Freeway

Dear Traveller,

Thankyou for placing your post on Trip Advisor. Overall I was very dissapointed to read your comments regarding your recent stay. I have raised a number of your concerns with my senior team for immediate investigation and follow up. Our hotel is only 4 years old and there are certainly no ongoing maintanace issues, like any piece of machinery though we get our A/C units serviced and have them on our preventative maintanace schedule. Likewise the TV has also been looked at and serviced.
Again I am sorry your stay did not met your expectations.

Went to Sydney for a 50th birthday party, part of which was a boat cruise leaving from the King Street Wharf. I booked this hotel for the proximity to the Wharf (and Cockle Bay), and because I am a ClubAccor member. The room was small but well arranged. The hotel is obviously a budget establishment. I have stayed at a number of Ibis hotels in Europe of similar standard for $100 per night. I still can't work out why this one cost $325 per night - or why I was stupid enough to book it at that price. I could have got the Westin for not that much more, and there is no comparison. Perhaps there as a lot going on in Sydney that weekend - but that's still no excuse for either me or the hotel.

Dear Traveller,

Thanks for taking the time to write your post on Trip Advisor. You are 100% correct that our hotel is well located, just a stone throw from the water front, fantastic bars and great restaurants. What our rooms lack in size we hope is more than made up for by our friendly team, clean rooms and great location.

Thanks again

Great location but terrible room ! Had the worst 3 nights sleep. Bed so uncomfortable! Room small. Nowhere to store luggage so had to pay $8 to store bag in locker for an hour an a half. Got told if we left door open while having a shower we would have to pay $750 call out fee for fire brigade call out ! Because smoke detector was right outside bathroom door!
Why not shift the smoke detector?????. Just made our stay very uncomfortable.
Will not be staying there again !!

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for taking the time to write your post on Trip Advisor. I was dissapointed to read about your comments particularly the bed issues. As you can appreciate bedding is a very personal choice and although we endevour to have a one size fits all bedding on this occasion it hasnt suited your preference. We certainly receive a large amount of positive feedback regarding the comfort of our beds. Our luggage room is $7 per locker for a 24 hour period.
Again i am sorry for the issues encountered.
