Description: Set in beautiful poolside surroundings, Uccello is ivy's hidden rooftop gem. Featuring an authentic Italian menu with only the freshest produce, each dish allows the ingredients to speak for themselves. Head Chef Ben Sitton’s menu combines intricate flavours with influences from all over Italy. Think Piedmontese tartare with anchovies and witlof or goats curd tortelli with peas. Making the most of Uccello’s stone oven, Ben has also perfected wood-fired proteins such as octopus with chickpea puree, quail with pomegranate and Bangalow pork loin with Tuscan cavolo nero. The dolci menu is also not to be missed, try deep fried citrus custard or Zokoko dark chocolate mousse for a sweet end to a relaxed afternoon atop ivy. Uccello’s menu is also perfectly complemented by an outstanding wine list by Head Sommelier Tim Perlstone, featuring 450 Italian wines.

We wanted to revisit Uccello as we couldn't think of anywhere else in Sydney that would match our needs. We wanted to people watch at a fabulous bar (Pool Bar), enjoy a few cocktails and then move on to a delicious dinner, whilst still enjoying the view of the Bar. Our last meal at Uccello about 12 months ago fulfilled these criteria. This time we weren't so lucky. The Pool Bar is not what it used to be (or should I say it doesn't attract the same crowd that it used to). (the margarita was still delicious). Uccello was still buzzy and we were sat next to a delightful table of two lovely couples who we chatted with and had a great night with. Our corner table meant that we had no view of the bar, so we could have been in any restaurant. Saturday nights you have no choice with the menu - it's 3 courses for $100 or nothing. All the portion sizes were huge, so no complaints about that, but the quality just wasn't there. My grilled prawns were slightly overcooked, hubbie's lasagne just tasted cheesy rather than meaty, my gnocci vongole were SWIMMING in oil. The flavour was lovely, but it was just oil overload. (the bread was delicious though).
My main was the crumbed veal. I was warned that it would be served slightly pink. If only. If that was pink then my name's Donald Duck. Hubbie had the pork belly - a huge portion, incredibly rich. We attempted to take away the three quarters we had to leave as we couldn't finish it, but were told that was impossible (no problem - lots of restaurants do this now for some unknown reason). I've been taking food home from restaurants since 1982 and never suffered a single upset tummy. Anyway.. my suggestion is take your own foil so you can make your own foil "swan" remember those?
So, to sum up, if you get a decent table overlooking the bar Uccello is still fun and the food and service is fine, but it's certainly not top class.

On a real hot first day of summer had a great long lazy lunch. Great service and a very interesting menu with lots of dishes we wanted to choose. Wine list was great as well. The outside pool and bar looked very inviting for those dressed for a summers day. Will be back.

Finally resigned to try Uccello during the Crave Festival for lunch. The layout and ambience very bright and lovely for lunch. and the cabanas by the pool felt very Californesque, but why wouldn't it since Merrivalye like to emulate others rather than make their own mark.

The food.....very disappointing. the crisp skinned trout was very disa pointing. lacked any substance or flavour and the small skerries of the leek of the side made the $38 meal very expensive, so you would dreamily need to order side dishes if you want more than the main.

the staff were friendly and very good.

I wouldn't go again,

Location is the key drawcard - 'rooftop' feel at the top of the Ivy complex overlooking the 'pool bar'. Classic Merivale creation - so the place to 'see and be seen'.

Cliches aside, this is an 'average' Italian restaurant with fairly average service. Value for money is not great.

However the ambience, decor, view and location are fantastic.

Recommend you book in advance. Best in summer and on a nice day.

The food is good well refined Italian fare. The vibe is glitzy hedonistic Ibiza, a shame Sydney has had a whack summer. Great place to people watch whilst eating tasty grub. The service is brilliant and the prices are what you expect to pay. Last time I was there we saw a middle aged man dancing on his own like he was 16 having the time of his life in the middle of the pool. Maybe having a mental breakdown or maybe his divorce had just come though ! Priceless !
