“Not that great..”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

Pros:
¤ It´s all about the location, only a short walk from central station. In the other direction Chinatown is just a two minutes away and you´ll walk to Darling Harbour in under ten minutes..
¤ Nice bar downstairs with some tv screens, with just five dollars for a beer from tap.

Cons:
¤ View was terrible, you look straight into the backyard. Try to get a room as high up as possible.
¤ Room is just decent, too small and pretty bad isolated (as everywhere in Australia).
¤ Pretty expensive for bad cable internet.

All in all, it´s too expensive for what you get, but it´s very central so should be okay for a couple of nights in Sydney.

Due to early morning flight stayed overnight. Very close to Central Station. Our room on 5th floor at the front was very noisy, suggest a room at the rear. Room was large and comfortable. Stayed again on our return. We requested a room at the rear, and this was much quieter. We dined at the restaurant which we would recommend.

This hotel is a short walk from Central Station, on a major bus route and across the road from a market and supermarket. It's a convenient base. This visit we had a room at the rear of the building and it was very quiet. Don't eat here. The advertising for the breakfast offerings is as unappealing as the food itself. The fresh fruit from the market is the best way to start the day, then head out for a coffee at Doppio, on Pitt Street.

Room Tip: The room at the back of the hotel and away from the lift was very quiet

Excellent value and location, close to Central station, theatres, Chinatown. Small rooms, but spotless, comfortable beds efficient reception staff. Good bistro meals if you don't want to go to Chinatown. Would definately stay again, much better than similarly priced hotels in the locale.

Arrived fairly late in the night, the gent checking guests in was a bit slow with getting the information put through to get us checked in.

No issues with the lifts at the time of day.

Room was fairly small, but good for just a short stay. Well set up and the room was clean and looked like it was fairly modern. No issues with the bed, comfortable enough. Bathroom was small, reminded me of bathrooms in New York and London. Tiles chipped in the shower was a bit off putting. Walls between rooms seemed fairly thin, could hear next door's TV going.

Check out was easy as, just hand card back in and walk out, way it should be.

Stayed on Level 6, seemed to be fairly good, had a few over the other buildings looking towards Markettown at China Town.

Small but spotless rooms. The only negative, shower screen opens into bath and taps behind screen, so have to hope into bath to turn the taps on. Apart from that value for money. Would definitely stay hear agsin

I have said this before, Tripadvisor should have a rating in between Average and Very Good.
Good would be a start and is how the Great Southern should be rated. This was our 4th or 5th stay and we will be back but the bathrooms are really in need of an update. I just cant grasp how tile grout can get so grotty in hotels. The rooms are cleaned daily, hopefully, and it is just not that hard to stop grout getting dirty!
The meals are reasonable and generally good except for breakfast which still struggles with way too many cold dishes. A buffet breakfast should have at least warm meals, cold sausages, hash browns and eggs are really unpleasant.
But, the location is excellent, it is handy to everything. If walking is an issue, there are buses at the door, 5 minutes walk to Central Station, 15 minutes stroll to Darling Harbour. Cheap excellent eateries everywhere in Chinatown, Markets across the road at the back.
The bar at the hotel is also great. Good cold beer, good staff and heaps of sport on the TV's.

Room Tip: We have stayed three times on a Sunday and always had good sized rooms.( Two rooms, both with TV'...
