Very much enjoy Sydney ferries. So much more relaxing than buses or trains, and also great for just sightseeing.

We took ferries from the Quay to Taronga Zoo, and from Luna Park to the Quay, as well as from the Quay to Manly Beach.

The ride to Manly Beach is about 20 minutes. I would take this over the private speed boat ride to Manly. It is cheaper and the view is just amazing. Also, I love that the ferry port at Manly has an ALDI's grocery store.

Sit in the back of the ferry for your ride to Taronga Beach - about a few minutes in - you'll be able to get a selfie with both the opera house and the harbour bridge in one frame.

Purchase a Twilight pass to Luna Park. Once you're finished with your unlimited rides - the lights on the bridge and opera house will likely have turned on. Take the Ferry from Luna Park to the Quay - and enjoy the lighted up skyline of evening time Sydney. Writing this makes me want to go back... and we only left last week.

The ferry system is easy to navigate and works alongside the train and bus networks as well. We caught the ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo and enjoyed the views and cool breeze from the ferry. Options to sit inside or out, upstairs or down. A great way to travel across the extended Sydney area.

You can pay an awful lot of money to see the sights of Sydney harbour on one of the many organised tourist experiences available and which ply their wares on the quays. But it's the timetabled ferries that get you to places you probably wouldn't think of going to yourself.

They're a vital part of the Sydney transport infrastructure and, for the price of a couple of beers or a glass of wine, you can spend three hours trundling up and down the Parramatta river via the stops that serve the financial district, the former Olympic site and the miscellany of small river halts along the way.

And, naturally, you go out and back under THAT bridge and past THAT opera house, affording you some pretty good photo opportunities.
