“Great retreat outside of the city ”
Review of Hunter Valley

Reviewed May 9, 2017 via mobile

Drove 2 hours from Sydney into hunter valley and stayed there for 2 nights. As our accommodation had a nice BBQ area, we spent the first day having a BBQ and sat by the bonfire at night. The next day we spent it driving along the small roads and bumped into some kangaroos along the way. Did a bushland walk in the morning and in the afternoon, we went to the Brokenwood winery and Smelly cheese shop in Roche Estate, and did some wine and cheese tasting. Ended up going away with a couple of Pinot Gris and different kinds of cheese. Lovely wine region and I would definitely go back there again to explore more wineries if I ever came back to Sydney for a visit!

Used to be a great getaway location but it has lost its will to live!!!
We have been regular visitors to the hunter over the past 40 years and have always enjoyed our time there, but of late it seems that most of the businesses couldn't care less about there patrons. Restaurants and cafes overpriced (we don't mind paying a bit more if you get the service) but the staff are rude and unqualified. Most places don't open after 8.30pm or serve food after this time.
Such a shame if it goes belly up - COME ON HUNTER PICK UP YOUR GAME

Great day trip from Sydney, just about 2 hours drive away from the city. Winery hosts were friendly and we got to try lots of wine. Highly recommended for wine lovers!

We attended a charity night for Turia Pitt who was raising money for Interplast. We purchased a Hunter Valley Wine Lovers 3 day weekend at The Vintage. We enjoyed the spacious, well appointed and clean 2 story accomodation as well as the Golf Course (with our own buggy for the weekend). From there we explored the Hunter Valley and our favourite place for dinner was Lillino's and for lunch, Enzo's. Our favourite wineries were Misteltoe (Ken was a wealth of knowledge and happily shared it with us), Scarborough who guided us through their offerings and Tamburlaine where we had a wine and paired chocolate experience with the knowledgable and entertaining Mitchell. At none of these 3 wineries did we feel pressured to buy (even though we did) and it was clear they just wanted to help us learn and enjoy the whole experience. Our weekend included a driver organised by Rachel from Goodwill Getaways and Peter (our driver) listened to what we were wanting to do and did his best to tailor our day to meet all our expectations. Well done to all above, you helped make our Hunter Valley sojourn memorable

Even being opponent with two kids can't take away from the Hunter Valley. We visited the Christmas Lights Spectacular which was a fun and beautiful experience, husas well as husband playing golf and wining and dining with family. All round great mid week getaway!
