“One of our favourite Canberra restaurants”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

As our family has been going here for over 10 years I thought it was time to write a review. We just keep going back because its good honest Thai food. We have a number of favourites including choo chee goong ( prawns in red curry paste), beef mad saman, pork with chilli lime and green peppercorns, deep fried fish salad - the sauce is awesome, seafood laksa and on it goes. Fresh produce cooked well and dishes come with chilli ratings. We love hot food and spent 2 weeks in Thailand in 2012. Coming back to Thai Spice in Canberra did not disappoint. The kids love it too. In the warmer months we love to sit outside with some Singha beers enjoy the food and watch the people passing by.

“Good food, wish service was a bit better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

I agree with what others have said - it is definitely not a restaurant to go to if you are looking for a romantic night out. The restaurant can be a bit noisy when you have a few people in there. It can be seen as good or bad depending on what you are hoping for (a bit of noise helps with the overall atmosphere).

The waitress was very prompt in coming over and taking our order. We ordered the fish cakes and chicken satays for entrees - both were delicious. For mains - we ordered the lamb shanks, deep fried fish with veges in sweet and sour sauce, and chicken with chilli and basil. The lamb shank (yes there was only one) was ok - it wasn't tough but it certainly didn't feel right having lamb shank thai style. IMO the chicken was a little dry (not even sauce) but it tasted nice. I enjoyed the fish too (probably would have liked a bit more sauce too).

We sat around for quite a while after we finished eating our mains chatting, waiting for the staff to clear our plates. No-one came at all which was rather disappointing. The restaurant wasn't full (about half full inside with no tables outside). In the end we just decided to leave - walked up to the counter, paid the bill and left. If they had come to clear the plates and asked if we wanted dessert, we would have stayed and possibly even ordered a coffee.

Overall it was ok - definitely wouldn't be rushing to go back for dinner.

“Group dinner, with 8 shared dishes was a hit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We had a group dinner on Saturday night and each ordered a different dish which we shared. Duck curry, chicken with cashews, stir fry veges in oyster sauce, special fried rice, massaman beef, pad Thai with prawns, etc. all dishes were terrific. Just a couple of small things, the pieces in the massaman beef were very large and the satay chicken sauce looked as though it had been heated in a microwave with burnt edges. On rather small tables the serving dishes were very large and were only half covered with food.Apart from these minor issues we really enjoyed the food despite the place becoming very noisy when full.

“What the??”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

Have been there a couple of times before and the meals were excellent. Today 6 of us tried the lunchtime banquet and it was very disappointing. The entrees looked and tasted like they had been re-heated from yesterday, the chicken in the soup had a foul taste about it and the pad thai was average. I will say that the red curry was very good, but overall the meal was surprisingly disappointing. Don't think i can go back now.

“Amazing Thai”

IMO best Thai in the Woden Valley. Will do mild, medium or hot. Great range of vegetarian food as well.
