We recently stayed at the Oxley Court Serviced Apartments in Canberra. Based on some of our past experiences and also based on some of the reviews posted on this website, we were expecting an average experience whilst mentally preparing ourselves for a bad experience. However, I am delighted to say that we were pleasantly surprised and very happy with our stay. For starters, the rooms are huge. We were staying as a family of 6 and there was enough and more space for all of us. The lounge room is a reasonably big size and there was ample space even after the sofa bed was open. We did not have to fold the sofa bed back each day because there was another sofa that we could use during the day. The kitchen and the bathroom were spotlessly clean and spacious. The bed linen and towels were spotless. The staff at the reception and the service staff were very helpful and supplied any additional bed linens, etc. that we requested. The biggest surprise was that, unlike other serviced apartments/hotels that we have been to in the past, the towels, toiletries, tea supplies, washing supplies are all replenished daily. They even make the beds daily. I have never experienced that before. The only thing that could improve is the décor which is quite standard and basic. However, I would happily settle for clean living conditions over ambience. Also, having just 1 bathroom meant there was a bit of a scramble to get ready in the morning. We will be returning whenever we need a place to stay in Canberra. We will also be recommending this place to our friends.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have a courtyard. We had read a review saying that the room behind the office was noisy so we had asked for a room that was not on the ground floor. However, when we reached there, we realised that there are other ground floor rooms that are not near the office and might have been a good option too, esp. if you have little kids.

I stayed here with my family for 2 nights. The apartments were of an excellent standard. Clean, well maintained. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay and will be returning. Excellent apartments for familes. The apartments are only a short distance from Kingston shopping and dining precinct. IT is also situated in a nice quiet area.

Just returned from two nights at Oxley Court in a 2 bedroom unit. The upstairs unit was large and easily accommodated the four of us. I liked the quiet neighbourhood and the balcony overlooking Oxley Street. Easy to get to all the attractions and shops were close by (although we did have a car). Apartments are not new but clean & comfortable and suited our needs. I was surprised to see the cleaners had come & replaced our towels & emptied the bins; most places we have stayed at do not service the units until a week has gone by. The free wi-fi was a bonus, and worked just fine. The unit had a flat screen tv, dvd player , airconditioning and a separate laundry, but the fridge could do with replacement.
It is very hard to find reasonably priced accommodation in Canberra, especially during school holidays & Floriade, and this was much better than a pokey caravan park.

Trip Advisor rarely lets you down - and on this occasion it lived up to that statement! This is a fantastic place to stay with the family. We stayed here for 5 nights in September, room 22, at a total cost of $1195. We had a room with a queen size bed, and another with two singles. There was also a decent foldout sofa bed. These beds all more than adequately catered for our family of 6 (wife, myself and four children under the age of 5 including one infant).

The rooms are brick walled but painted well so you hardly notice they aren't plaster. The décor and furnishing are first class - very nicely appointed and whilst not necessarily your Marriot quality, they are certainly not cheap either - very nice and raise the appearance of the rooms overall. The manager has done a fine job of ensuring the rooms are well furnished to a great standard.

The WiFi was brilliant in our room. Great speed and we did not have a dropout (that I can recall) over the 5 days of our stay (essential as we were house hunting). Well done management on this achievement - and it was free! Absolutely commendable. I didn't ping the service, but it was easily running at ~1-1.5MB/second download, by my reckoning.

The room was spacious, and had everything you needed to fully sustain yourself over the period. Despite some reviews, we found the maids changed all towels daily, in addition to making our beds - nice touches like putting our kids teddy bears on their pillows. This sort of simple stuff counts for impressions, I assure you. All of the service staff were friendly and accommodating, from those we met.

The location is excellent - easy walking distance to the Manuka shops, or to the Kingston shops (avoid the IGA there at the Kingston shops though, it's a rip off - go to the Coles in Manuka instead).

At a cost of approximately $200-250 per night in the middle of Kingston, I challenge you to find better - you could go uptown to somewhere like the Aria and pay another $100 per night…for what? Some more swish furnishings…seriously, why would you? Oh, and the Aria charges Internet at $20 for 24 hours (current rate).

Oxley Court Serviced Apartments - simply the best in town! We WILL be back.

Room Tip: Room 22 was terrific.

We stayed at the Oxley Court apartments for 3 nights over Easter weekend with our two young children. We had a ground floor 2-bedroom apartment at the front.

The apartment is well-located in Kingston, a short drive to all the major Canberra attractions as well as restaurant strips in Kingston and Manuka. There is a big oval across the road which the children enjoyed playing on, as paths for bike and scooter riding down near the lake.

The apartment was very quiet, spacious and clean, although the bathroom, carpets and paint were looking quite dated. The lounge and dining room had updated furniture, TV and DVD player. The kitchen was also well equipped.

The biggest letdown for us was the bed in the main bedroom. It was extremely lumpy and not very comfortable for sleeping.

The prices are quite reasonable, but I'd pay more for a comfortable bed and renovated bathroom.

Some of the sights we enjoyed on our trip were Cockington Green, Questacon and The Old Bus Depot Markets & Glassworks (in walking distance).

Dear Louche,

Thank you for taking the trouble to review Oxley Court.

We would like to take this opportunity to respond to the comments above.

Firstly, thank you for your positive comments with regard to our quiet, spacious and clean apartments. Our apartments are much bigger in comparison to most long-stay apartments, especially in the Kingston and Manuka area.

Please note that since your stay with us in April, our apartments have been newly refurbished and given fresh coats of paint. In addition, our bed comforters have recently been replaced with thicker and more luxurious ‘bed toppers’ in all rooms. Please view the link below for more information on the specific bed toppers we use at Oxley Court.

http://www.hotelhome.com.au/HotelHomeWWW/Otheritem/BedTopper.php

These bed toppers are very comfortable and we have received excellent feedback recently on our soft beds.

Furthermore, as you mentioned, many tourist sites are within walking distance of our apartments. Our receptionists are always happy to assist with itineraries, maps, bus schedules and information on free tours.

Kind Regards,
Rob Spry
Manager
