We had hoped to combine business with romance. Canberra was cold, which we expected but, so was the ambience of the room. I had intended to sit there and work while my husband was with clients but I found that on the South side of the hotel the room felt very unwelcoming. It was badly proportioned and on the couch we were constsntly assaulted by the air from the heater. I suspect it would have been a different story if we'd been on the side overlooking the pool. For $230 a night I hoped for a bit more than stark, clean facility.
There were road works throughout the night but obviously we were just unlucky there. It won't happen to the next person!
The location was great....particularly if you're able to work out the Canberra bus system!

We visited Canberra in the Winter school holidays with our 3 teenage children. The 2 bedroom,2 bathroom apartment was perfect for our needs. The sofa bed in the living area was big enough and comfortable enough for our 18 yearold son(not all sofa beds are!) The apartment was heated by a split system in the living area which worked fine but was a little noisy and drying. The bathrooms have in-floor heating which was nice. The apartments are modern and furnished in the minimalistic way with neutral tones. So not cosy if that is what you are loking for. There could probably be a few more chairs and crockery/cutlery as we had to use the desk chair for the 5th person to eat and had to washup very often.
The apartments are well located and easy to find. The reception staff emailed reservation details plus a locality map and weather forecast the day before we arrived which was a nice touch!
We walked to ANU (the university) in less then 10 minutes and also to restaurants in the civic area in the evening.(there are a few reastaurants in the street behind the apartments as well) The reception staff were helpful with maps, restaurant suggestions etc. The apartments are a 5-10 minute drive from most of the Canberra attractions e.g Questacon, Parliament house etc.
Tip!! Canberra people seem to eat out often and dine early. So if you have your heart set on a particular restaurant, best to book!!
We had the buffet breakfast one morning. it was reasonable value and reasonable variety, if not particularly exciting. Free newspapers were available in the reception area every morning. You just helped yourself. Another nice small touch.
The pool looked nice but due to single figure temperatures, we didn't try it!!
So yes, great apartments for a family group to have plenty of space whilst staying in Canberra!!

This hotel was number one in TripAdvisor but I'm not sure what's earned it the top spot. This is a standard, soulless business hotel and once you're inside you could be anywhere and you could be anyone.

We booked a double room for the weekend and followed the advice to ask for a room at the back of the hotel. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite at no extra cost. Sure, it was nice to have the extra room, but I'd rather they spent time doing the basics really well.

I look for three things in a hotel: a good night's sleep, a good shower and a good breakfast. The Clifton has a go at all three but falls short.. The bed was dressed with a single fleece blanket which felt like a backpacker hostel. I didn't sleep particularly well as a result. The shower was feeble and blew hot and cold, and the breakfast was mass-produced canteen style where it's been under the heatlamp all morning. Coffee was from a flask (ugh), if you wanted a proper machine made latte, its an extra $3.50. The food won't win an award but it does the job if you avoid the rock-hard bacon rashers.

Wifi is paid for and expensive. I think wifi should always be free. You don't pay for your electricity or water on top of your room rate do you? You get some fresh milk left every day in the fridge, one nice touch.

The hotel was spotless, the staff were friendly and helpful and room service was fast. Parking was easy in the underground car park and it was a short stroll to the CBD.

Overall pretty much what I expected for the price from a large soulless hotel and while there's no real cause for complaint, equally there was nothing to persuade me to come back.

I booked a 1 bedroom apartment at Clifton Suites and was given a complementary upgrade to a 2 bedroom upon arrival - a very nice surprise. The apartment was huge - almost as big as my house! - and had all the fittings, furnishings and equipment you would expect. Staff were all very friendly. Oh and the floor in the bathroom was heated! That's a very nice touch when you're in Canberra in winter.

Downsides? No gym. Wasn't told I could get Qantas Frequent Flyer points when I was checking out. Bathroom door didn't shut properly. As you can see, they weren't major issues hence my overall positive rating.

Whether a family holiday, or a weekend away with the girls, this hotel caters to all needs. In a great, easy to find, location close to the city centre and within reach of most tourist spots. Rooms have plenty of space and are stylishly furbished, as well as being practical for those travelling with young children. A full kitchen and laundry are a big plus. Staff are helpful and friendly, but not over the top. Easy to book over the phone or online, and prompt in getting back with answers to my queries.

To be honest I was not expecting much of Canberra's accomodation, having grown used to staying 5 star in melbourne, but this place proved to be surprising. I rang to request an apartment on the southside after reading numerous reviews regading the noise levels and arrived to find that no only had they listened but they had upgraded me as well. Check-in was quick and efficient and we were able to check in earlier than 2pm, which is always helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and perfect for friends sharing or families. The free parking is a real bonus and spaces are easy to find. The only complaint I have is that they really need to consider more heating units, one in the lounge area is not really enough to keep you warm on those cold canberra nights. I would stay here again if coming with family or friends, I suggest going without pre-conceptions and you will be pleasently surprised
