We, a family of 3, recently spent 4 nights at the Clifton Suites, and mostly it was a good experience. The suite its self was roomy and bright, with a modern kitchen. The beds were comfy (a king in our room and a queen in our daughters). A couple of problems we encountered were, one, our daughters room, which was mainly all windows/sliding glass doors, was extremely cold at nights. We tried leaving heating on in main room plus having her door open but it didn’t seem to help at all. There were extra blankets on her bed, so maybe it’s a problem people have complained about in the past? Secondly, we were a corner suite at the front of the building, so we fronted Northbourne Avenue. Canberra is very small, and traffic is nothing like places we’ve been before, but, at night the noise from cars & trucks was very annoying. In all honesty, we could have asked to be moved and I am sure if there was a suite available it wouldn’t have been any problem with the staff, but, we just stuck in the ear plugs and put up with it.
The bathroom was equipped with a front loader washing machine and a dryer, plus a laundry trough, so doing washing was a breeze. The appliances were all tucked away very neatly in a little area behind doors. (It looked like a cupboard from the outside) There was a shower over a bath, so if you felt like a soak after a day out, it was possible.
The kitchen had a dishwasher, micro wave, full size fridge and a stove/oven. It had basic cooking utensils, enough to make do, unless you were planning a gourmet dinner. (Too many restaurants around to worry about that!)
Parking was underneath the building, and free. You just use your room swipe card to enter. There are lifts you can use to go straight up to your room too.
The only real compliant we had was the floors were not cleaned daily. In saying this, I have to add the bathroom floor had hair and dust around the edges when we checked in, and it was still there when we checked out 4 days later… Our beds were made each day and towels and such refreshed, but floors were obviously something housekeeping aren’t keen on cleaning? This is something we should have brought to the attention of management, but, as much as it was not up to standard, we couldn’t be bothered making a fuss.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay, and yes, we would stay again, but, we would make sure to request a room at the back of the building, as that would cut out the noise.

Stayed here for a conference. Had a room overlooking a side street so no problems with the traffic on Northbourne.

Stayed over Australian winter and had no problem with the lack of centralised heating in the bedrooms. We simply asked for extra blankets. Requests for extra pillows, sheets etc. were promptly actioned by housekeeping.

Only real disappointment was the bathrooms. While the underfloor heating was great it was silly that there was no place to put one's towel, and the fact that there was only a little screen on the shower-cum-bathtub, meaning that water sprayed all over the floor. The size of our two bedroom apartment was also disproportionate - one (with ensuite) had much more storage space than the other.

Had no problems with the comfortableness of the living room furniture or the cleanliness of the room. The bed was very comfortable. Did not experience the problems with the blinds which others report.

Only real downside was the one lift servicing reception - though this was exacerbated by the fact everyone in the conference checked in and checked out at the same time.

I stayed 1 night in a spacious 2 bedroom apartment. Large Kitchen and living area, complete with dining area and desk for some work. It had 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms were small and they have water saver shower heads, so you know what to expect here.

Large bedroom with a comfortable king size bed and big robe. Good quality iron and ironing board (so important for the business traveler).

Breakfast was okay. However no muesli, average eggs and only filtered coffee.

The service was average but helpful. You can run to fitness first if you want a workout and its not far into the centre of the city.

i would recommend staying here if you enjoy apartment style accommodation

I didn't like this hotel a lot. It is very stylish but not very comfortable and as other reviewers have pointed out there are several small things that add up to a bad stay. The blinds are terrible at blocking out the light and the noise from traffic is considerable.

The broadband connection is at the opposite side of the room to the desk ! Why would you design a room like that ?

There must be better accommodation in Canberra.

Not too bad. Had two recent experiences there - one in a room overlooking Northbourne Avenue. After that experience, the second time I asked for a quiet apartment at the back of the building. That was much better, as I hardly slept at all in the apartment facing Northbourne - traffic goes past all night (much of it heavy vehicle) and the mornign rush starts early as the public servants get on the road.

Most things were pretty good, except the aircon points so that there is a chilly blast in the living area, and complete lack of effectiveness in the bedrooms - no good on very hot summer nights as I experienced.

This is yet abother of those "it all looks fabulous on the surface" type places, but you soon realise the living room furniture is quite uncomfortable and there are only bare basics in the kitchen.

The corridors are not cooled, and it is like a heat box.

The outdoor pool area is quite nice. It is advertised as 25 metres, but is very narrow. Don't expect to do any laps unless you get up VERY early! In school holiday time it is, of course, filled with kids. I did notice that they allowed glass bottles in teh poiol area, and at one stage a large group of men were standing the pool drinking beer. Nexct morning the empty bottles still had not been cleared.

The free parkign is welcome, and convenient.

An upgrade when I checked was a great start. Very new, spacious rooms, albeit furnished in a sparse style, in a location that was very handy to Canberra’s CBD.

There were some small things:

-No instructions for the airconditioner
-Silly flickmixer taps in the shower that were all too easy to bump into the off position
-A bed that was a standard double rather than a king or queen
-Horrible horrible combination soap on tap/shampoo (that wasn’t even kept full)

Not quite what I expected from a very new 4.5 star property that received the rave review I first read – but not enough to stop me from returning when I’m next in Canberra.

I would agree with the reviewer who pointed out that the un-ducted airconditioning requires bedroom doors to be kept open, so this property is fine for couples and families, but may not suit colleagues or friends traveling together and thinking of sharing a suite.

I’d rate this above the Quality Dickson.

I travel almost constantly for work and I was in Canberra at this hotel on two occassions for one week each time. The hotel is newly renovated and the rooms are VERY clean, modern and comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable- I slept very well here! As mentioned in another review, it's true that the shades do not block all of the light but I didn't mind. The kitchen was pristine and had every dish and appliance you would need. Every room has a balcony and on my second stay, I had a lovely view of the hills and the Telstra tower. The staff were very nice and were accomodating to requests. I did not experience any of the problems mentioned in other reviews. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.
