“High powered elevation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2012

This is a water feature that sends water hundred of feet into the sky from the lake near the Commonwealth Avenue bridge. Mainly operated in the afternoons. Sends mists a fair distance depending on prevailing winds.

“A reasonable sight”

The water jet has restricted hours and if you see it you might think "that's interesting". However I would not make a special trip as you'd probably be disappointed.

“A Lost Opportunity!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2011

This water jet has the potential to wow the tourist. It certainly adds that excitement to the capital that people remember and take away with them. The very best activity to do in Canberra is to walk around Lake Burley Griffin - and lots do it. When the jet is on, it adds to the visual aspect of the lake. Alas, the jet runs for about 2 hours in the afternoon only. Having the jet running would outweigh any reasons for not having it on.

“A unique water jet fountain overlooking panoramic surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2011

The first thing to know about the captain cook memeorial jet is that it usually ONLY operates between 2-4pm everyday so if you go outside this time and nothing is happening, then obviously the jet is not turned on so you'd be very dissapointed but can still enjoy all the other attractions nearby such as lake burley griffin, national galleries, questacon, high court, national exhibition, bonsai garden etc.

Basically the jet is just a large pressurised fountain producing a stream of water greater than 150m from the looks of it. You won't have to make a special trip to see it if you don't want to as you can drive close by at that time of the day without missing a quick glipse.
