“Strenuous but rewarding”

Booroomba Rocks Walk
Reviewed January 3, 2013

From the carpark after a dirt track drive, a 30-40 minute walk all uphill to top of Booroomba Rocks is well worth the resulting view of Canberra below. Due to a natural forest much of the walk is in shade and a seat is halfway up for a nice rest overlooking a huge boulder above the valley.

We walked this short trail over Easter break (I took some chocolate eggs up with me in my pack!!).
It was relatively easy & short. The kids (16, 14 & 10) hacked it easily. We all marveled at the view (adults had a coffee with the choccy eggs) and the reward was stunning.
Just gotta watch the young ones a little, no barriers, etc.
A great short bushwalk.

A beautiful walk to a stunning view for a picnic! The walk is shady and spectacular. It will only take most moderately fit people 30-40 minutes at most from the carpark to the summit, so it isn't very long. A reasonably easy walk overall with only a couple of steep points. You arrive at the top of a sheer cliff with amazing views at the top. The drive from Canberra to the Booroomba Rocks walk in Namadgi National Park is lovely too. Recommended!

Lovely path up the mountainside. Slope is easy, there are steps at steeper points, and it is not especially long as a hiking trail. I have gone up with whiny four year olds and they had no trouble and really enjoyed the spectacular rocks. Great, easy outdoors experience for city slickers.

I have now done this walk many times and enjoy it each time. If you go early in the morning you are likely to meet a friendly wallaby and be able to see more bird life. The walk is rated as medium difficulty and takes you up a steep but well maintained track that has rock steps cut into it for easy climbing. There is a seat to sit and have a rest on, half way up the track and some good views at this point over the Australian Alps Walking Track below. Continue on and the track becomes a little steeper but you are rewarded at the top with fantastic views over the valley and back towards Canberra.
I have also done this walk at night time and this is when you get to see all the wildlife that you do not see during the day. If you are lucky you will see one of the many wombats in the area. Watch out though during the day, because they like to leave their calling card on the steps.
There is a good parking area and pit toilet at the start of the track. The access road to the area is well maintained, but bet to take it slowly. There is a good camping area further up Apollo Road that has amenities and the Namadgi Visitors Centre is always worth a visit for a coffee after your walk.
