Best Western Plus Garden City Hotel

Hotel is fine, quiet in the suburbs so a car is essential to get about. Would have given a better rating except they omitted to advise us that the restaurant was closed for the whole of Easter except for breakfast. They did give a list of local restaurants but even one of those was closed for the whole time.

Booking made subject to advertised rating of 4 and half star rating, accommodation was not comfortable, bathroom smelled of urine, parking was a nightmare, and receptionist unhelpful. Booking made with impression that it was walking distance to city however it was a 15minute drive

Room Tip: Rooms on east side over look the car park and rooms on west side face onto main road

We booked this hotel through Wotif Secret Deal which we had used previously and with which we had been delighted.
We stayed three nights.
Fortunately we had our car as this hotel is way out of town with no restaurants, shops, buses or taxi rank nearby.
Other guests were ordering a taxi to the city while I was checking out. I don't know how you would manage without a car.
The hotel restaurant is closed on Sunday nights.
Our room, a queen with a single bed, was spacious, clean and comfortable with a large TV.
The rooms have recently been redecorated. The bathroom was modern and the toiletries were of a good quality.
The hotel is really about 3.5 star rating as it has no 24 hour desk, no staff to help with luggage or restaurant facilities on Sundays.
We ate at the Kingston Shopping Centre which has a good range of restaurants, even on a Sunday night. It is not within walking distance.
The staff were courteous and our check-in and check-out were smooth.

On our three night stay in Canberra we stayed in a Queen room overlooking the pool on the ground floor and a short walk to the restaurant and foyer at the Best Western Plus Garden City Hotel. The room appointments were excellent, large TV, good sized bathroom which was very well appointed and functional. The meals we ordered from the room service menu were of an exceptional quality and very generous. If I had any complaint it would be with the location, a bit far from town but all in all our stay was wonderful.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Pool.

We booked this hotel through the Canberra and Region Visitor Centre.

The package for $189 for 2 adults & 1 child included cooked breakfast & two tickets to the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition and was excellent value!

We can highly recommend either eating at the Kingston Hotel which is only 5 mins drive or Ginseng in Manuka which is B.Y.O. and very popular. The hotel restaurant is closed on a Sunday evening.

We found our room to be very comfortable for the 3 of us but it was lt let down by old and ragged towels and cups that needed a good clean.

The hot breakfast is cooked to order and was plentiful but the continental buffet option needed replenishing (even though we went down very early to eat) and was not presented in an appealing way.

The service at reception was very good and there is free on site parking.

Room Tip: Search on the net for a good deal.

Got more than we were expecting from a Best Western property- usually synonymous with older style, slightly tired 'country hospitality'. We found the QS superior/ executive room adequate for a one night sleep over, the bathroom was compact but functional, clean and tidy - the provided products were very cute, good quality and refreshingly contemporary. We believe that these rooms have been recently refurbished so all was in good order. View over the pool was better than a car park view.

The highlight was $4 happy hour drinks (even on a Saturday night) and the lovely meal we had in the restaurant. Each course was delicious and generous in portion size. We were thrilled when the chef refused to serve us the rocket salad as the rocket supplied to him wasn't up to standard - true integrity. Had breakfast in our room as there was no extravagant over charge for room service, which is often the case. Arrived hot and at designated time.

The restaurant, bar and reception staff all very friendly and helpful. Check in and check out were quick, efficient and hassle free. Would stay here again if looking for budget conscious stay, with some surprise added bonuses.

I booked a 1 night stay at a 4.5 star mystery hotel in Canberra on 7th March via the Wotif website for $148.00 incl taxes.

I was flexible with where I stayed, but expected far more of a reputed 4.5 star hotel.

The Best Western Plus, Garden City Hotel is a motel, not a hotel. It is on a reasonably busy road, surrounded by local clubs, and right behind the site is a huge sporting field with incredibly bright flood lights at night. SO glad we were on the road-side! There is no outlook worthy of a 4.5 star rating.

The accommodation is perfectly acceptable for a motel. Nice beds, comfy pillows and the staff were friendly. The welcome free parking is outdoors, not undercover, and spots are limited when the hotel is busy. Very positive and very welcome is the free WiFi! This should be the case in all hotels/motels.

The in-room tea and coffee tray consisted of Bushells tea bags and instant coffee sachets. One of the cups had chips on the rim, and also 2 of the saucers, which were mis-matched pieces. This is not up to 4.5 star standard.

With the fixed tap fitting in the bathroom it is quite a challenge to fill the large hot water jug.

The room my young cousin and I shared, Room 256, was on the small size. I am glad we were not three people sharing the room, as the room was advertised it would accommodate. There are only 2 chairs to sit on at the small table, with the third available at the very tight desk. Would not be very comfortable for three people dining in at the table.

The bathroom has been renovated but was the ceiling in the shower has mould growing. The outdoor pool was in need of a clean, with dirt and leaves and covering the bottom of the pool. Not very inviting for a swim. We looked in at the gym room but did not try out the equipment.

This is a 3 star establishment at best. I have asked Wotif to not advertise this establishment as 4.5 star, and certainly to not include it in the category of hotel. Even the establishment's website describes it as a motel.

I cannot make a comment on the quality of the food or restaurant/bar service as we did eat dinner or breakfast.

Certainly a previous comment about needing a car if staying at this establishment is spot on. It's at least a 15 minute drive into Civic, although it is quite close to Manuka and Griffith, and handy to the federal Parliamentary precinct.

Not an experience I want to repeat, and was disappointed that my young German relative did not get to experience a real 4.5 star HOTEL.

Room Tip: On a busy road, no outlook, need a car. Motel not a hotel.
