The Mawson Club is our local club so we frequent it reasonably often. It does an ok a Seniors Special, though the meat can vary. I suspect it's precook end, and heated up. The veggies are usually good. Their a la carte menu is good, with the salmon usually nicely cooked ie not overdone, and nicely flavoured. The desserts look like they're bought in, but there's a fair range if you like such things.

The best thing about the club though is that it's pretty quiet, even when busy - as long as you don't sit near the parent and children area when that's fully occupied.

And the top thing is the staff. The front of house reception is excellent ... Very friendly ... And in all the years we've been going we've rarely had anything but friendly, willing attentive service from food and bar staff.

It may not be the cheapest club but it is cosy, friendly ... And the pokies aren't in your face.

We went mainly to try out the new avocado dishes on the menu but we very impressed with the service both at the front counter of the Mawson Club (and how easy it is to be signed in by a member - all electronic so bring your drivers licence or other photo ID) and with the service in the Citrus Cafe. Nothing was any trouble, pleasant people and courteous.

Before getting on to the avocadoes, a word about the entree we chose, the triple (tandoori, prawn twister, salt & pepper calamari) - absolutely scrummy. Well cooked (calamari isn't easy) and wonderful flavours complemented by each of the sauces.

I chose the avocado salad - lettuce (mignon? or one of those purple frilly ones), cherry/grape tomatoes, air-dried beef , fetta, and avocadoes),. It had been a hot day and this was really refreshing, just as you'd like. The air-dried beef gave a good contrast to the avocadoes which were fresh, ripe and creamy. Good mix of textures and flavours. My only ciritism was the mayonnaise - not a big fan of mayo and this it a touch heavy handed over the lettuce and tomaotes. Perhaps less is better or maybe a balsamic spritz?

Desserts are average - generic probably bought in, you seem them everywhere.
