Pavilion on Northbourne
Ranked #20 of 57 Hotels in Canberra
Reviewed May 15, 2006

I booked the Northbourne for one night over the Anzac day long weekend for my family (me, my husband & 2 sons aged 6 & 3) after reading reviews on this site.

The hotel room was standard at best, nothing spectacular at all and small for a family of four. There was no mini bar, no toilettries (including no soap in the shower soap dispenser). But the biggest problem of all was that there was no hot water (luke warm). After going to see the hot air balloons at sunrise (spectacular) we all wanted to come back to a hot bath/shower.

I complained on checkout and was told that maintenance would look into it. Nothing further offered.

The other problem with the actual hotel was that although the atrium was attractive - there was a large group of people smoking and drinking (talking loudly) in the bar until late in the evening. We returned to the hotel at around 9.30pm and were hit with the cigarette smoke as soon as we walked in the front door.

Overall - for the price we paid ($169 for one night in the hotel room/no breakfast) I would have preferred to stay down the road at the Chiffley for half the price and identical room (with hot water and toilettries!)

My Wife and I have just spent 3 nights in the Pavilion and the service was excellent, the food was brilliant and customer service was great. The decor is exceptional and everything is kept spotless at all times. This is a great place to stay at a reasonable price. Thanks to "Tripadvisor.com" for their reviews which was the main reason we stayed there.

Great motel, fantastic atmosphere - foyer is like a rainforest. Service is good and rates quite reasonable for a four and a half star motel. (---). Rooms were quiet, clean and roomy.

The restaurant has beautiful food and the service is first class...close to the city and major attractions. I'll be back for sure!

10/10

I spent a week at the Pavilion & absolutely loved it!!!! Anyone that is lucky to share the experience of staying at a top quality hotel will not regret it.
The warm welcome you recieve on arrival is just the first of many pleasures you will experience.
The staff are extremely well trained in the positions they hold & act as if it is a pleasure to work in their surroundings (which I honestly believe it would be).
The suites leave nothing to be desired, it is a home away from home, plus more.
The restraunt delivers mouth watering food that can be topped by none, finally there is a chef that knows the true meaning of "medium rare"!
Room service is very quick with nothing lacking as if you were to dine in the restraunt.
Nestled amongest the rain forest effects of the huge palms & tree ferns is the bar where you can enjoy either a quiet drink or meet new friends, again the service is second to none.
I enjoyed my visit & will now stay no where else and I am positive that each & every guest will feel the same.
Thank-you to everyone for making my visit so wonderful....I will be back!
