“DIDN'T IMPRESS ME VERY MUCH.”
Reviewed March 4, 2011

Stayed at this hotel for a car club function and show as host hotel fully booked. Overpriced ($155) and the new rooms are very small and not well built, but then we only really wanted a shower and a bed. Beds were a bit soft for our liking. Parking at front of door so can get noisy. If you plan on staying here ask for a room in the main reception area (old section) or near the breakfast room. As the extensions are in an "L" shape try not to get a room down near the "L" intersection as there are around 10 or so rooms and a set of noisy stairs in this area. As this is also double story there are a lot of rooms in the corner section. However, plenty of parking and a 10 min flat walk to the football club for tea. A bit out of town and would need your own transport, but relative quiet area except for the other hotel guests. Again we were here on a Saturday night so noise can be expected. Reception staff were excellent. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the breakfast.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your positive comments about our excellent reception staff. Our records reveal that you stayed with us on a very busy weekend in Canberra and the motel was full. We did our best to please all our guests and apologise that you found the motel a little noisy. Unfortunately, when every room is occupied, it is sometimes difficult to manage the noise levels. Had you complained at the time, we would have done our best to address the issue. You stayed in a standard room, which was recently renovated, and we believe that it was fitted out to a high standard. Every guest obviously has a different preference concerning firmness of beds, but we have installed quality beds and have tried to achieve a happy medium. Our much larger executive and business rooms in the main wing are currently being totally renovated and we would hope that, on another occasion, you might consider staying with us again. The latter rooms are removed from the parking lot and are very quiet. In regard to our rate, we have a policy that, even if the motel is fully booked, we do not increase rates beyond our normal, very competitive levels. Thank you again for your review. Booked my taxi with plenty of time to spare knowing what taxis are like in peak hour.
After twenty minutes the manager cancelled the taxi booking for myself and another two guests and delivered us herself. Good old fashioned personal service. The motel is clean, breakfast good and the staff all friendly. Have stayed a few times and will definitely stay again. Not five star but definitely value for money.

I usually stay at Novotel. This time I decided on Best Western and I wrongly assumed that four stars meant something with Best Western. I will never choose Best Western again. The Tall Trees Motel in Canberra had rude staff on reception. The photo they are advertising online is not the room you are assigned. The explanation is that they still have unrenovated rooms. So check the rooms before paying. I was silly enough to give my credit card details before seeing the rooms and was bill for one day cancellation fee. There was also not wireless internet as advertised.

The customer has elected to complain anonymously, so it is difficult to respond to the complaint. Yes - it is true that some of the rooms are about to be renovated. Those rooms are still of of a good standard and are certainly spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The criticism is regarded as suspicious, given that the customer awards only 2 stars for cleanliness and complains that we did not provided wireless internet as advertised. We know is that there is no cleaner establishment in Canberra, and we pride ourselves on this. Secondly we do not advertise wireless internet. We advertise cable internet and it is provided free of charge. Lastly - had the customer made us aware of the complaint/s, we would have used every endeavour to move him/her to a renovated room. It is not possible to respond to the allegation of rudeness, since no specific information is tendered. This is simply an emotive and negative critique with very little substance.

I have used this motel for a number of years for work trips. They are always friendly, well organised, and on top of their game. The breakfast kitchen does a very good job always. The location is perfect for a walk into the city.

We booked it because it is in a quiet residential area. The only downside was that there was a bit of plumbing noise from other rooms and from smokers walking up and down the walkway. If you are fat the bathroom might be a bit of a squeeze! Possibly not a good choice if you aren't in a car. The taxi from the airport was $26. The bus service at weekends is poor with no timetables at the stops so you have to ring a number to ask ( print out timetables off the internet before you go). It is about an hour walk to the War Memorial. Take a torch and a map for the walk to the Dickson shops - we recommend the chip shop which is hidden behind Woolworths. Continental breakfast was included in our package and was fine ( thickest slices of raisin toast I've ever seen). We couldn't connect our internet device as free internet is cable not wireless. 3 star not 4 star but I would stay there again.

Located within walking distance (15 mins) of the Dickson Shops and Restaurant Strip, this motel provides good accommodation. We stayed in the recently completed new wing of the motel - rooms are not large but an adequate size for a short stay when you spend most of your time away from the room. Checkin was satisfactory and free car parking is available on the site. Had a peaceful sleep and enjoyed the continental breakfast in the breakfast room in the morning. Too far to walk into the centre of Canberra so a car is needed. No dinner restaurant at the motel but Dickson is close. Will return.

Stayed one night in a spacious executive room on ground floor. All the essentials you would expect from a suburban motel. Good quality, clean and quiet room. But definitely overpriced, like many places in Canberra. Location is isolated if you are without a car. It cost me $15 from Canberra City by taxi at night.

A bit of a Fawlty Towers atmosphere upon checkout where I witnessed the manager loudly reprimanding a staff member at reception, and then deal with another guest in a rather unpleasant way. Unfortunately I've become used to mediocre customer communication in Australia, so it didn't surprise me.
