“Motel type accommodation”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

I stayed for 2 days as part of a business trip and chose the hotel based on location to my work and the fact it wasn't an overpriced fee for a general motel. Check in was easy and the receptionist cheery. the restaurant was closed but I was advised after enquiring that Dickson shops were a short drive away. There was free wifi which is a big ++. The room was neat and tidy and met all my needs. The work desk was a benefit. The minibar was well stocked which is unusual for this level of motel and a welcome surprise. On the first night it was exceptionally quiet but on the second night you could hear the TV from the room next door. The cleaners start at 7am and will stand in the corridor chatting. I ate breakfast in the restaurant on the first morning, just continental and found it quite basic. While it had the toast, cereal & yoghurt I felt it was very "home style" There was nothing wrong with the food and it was Ok. The evening meal was not as good, it definitely was just a home cooked meal and not a restaurant meal. The hotel is value for money and I would recommend. It is not 5 star but they don't promise that.

Room Tip: choose a room away from the restaurant

A warm day (40C) in Canberra in February and the room at Best Western Tall Trees was clean and the air conditioning worked! I had an odd bed setup with one single and one double - but I didn't make the reservations so I didn't argue. I did find the bathroom floor to be VERY SLIPPERY especially with water. The breakfast buffet was sufficient but nothing spectacular. This hotel is safe, clean and does the job for the business traveler.

Room Tip: Upper level #255 was quiet.

We travelled from Perth to Canberra to perform at the National Multicultural Festival and spent two nights at the Best Western Tall Tress in Canberra. Our room was on the ground floor, reasonably clean and spacious with a king size bed, flat screen TV, mini fridge, desk with a chair and a sofa. It was 39 degrees outside and the air con unit was on the wall, but it did not work. We had to ring reception and it turned out that our key card did not work properly and hence the air con unit didn't work. Lady from the reception came over with a new key card and sorted the problem out quite quickly. We needed the air con because the door had a huge gap underneath it (we ended up rolling a large towel to plug the hole).

Bathroom had a shower in it, toilet and a small sink. They were all clean and basic toiletries were provided.

No meal was provided, but WiFi was free for the whole stay.

There was a wedding in the restaurant during our stay, but because we asked for a room far away from the reception/restaurant area, it was reasonably quiet.

We stayed at the Best Western Tall Trees Canberra for 1 night on the Australia Day long weekend. The staff were accommodating to let us check-in early to freshen up before a wedding, which was really appreciated after a long drive with a baby. The room was nice - clean, modern, spacious - and came with a portable cot as requested. The place was quite busy on the night we stayed, and we were a little concerned because there was a BBQ outside and lots of noise in the corridor, but thankfully we didn't hear much once we were in our room. There appeared to be free wifi, but we weren't in our room enough to use it and you had to ask reception for the details.

It was about a 15 minute drive to the centre of Canberra, with a little bit of zig-zagging. The Dickson shops were not far away. As far as the location goes, it's not in the middle of the action, but what little there is in Canberra is quite spread out anyway so it's generally easier to enjoy Canberra with a car regardless of where you stay.

Breakfast was a mixed experience. On the morning we were there, it was only served from 7:30-9:30am. We arrived not too long after 9am, and one of the staff seemed more eager to pack up than assist us, and were told that the fruit platter would not be replenished because we were too late. The other lady was lovely and was more attentive, such as offering to get a high chair for our baby. The (complimentary?) continental breakfast was actually quite good and included gluten-free options. We ordered an additional hot breakfast for $8 as well which again was surprisingly good!

That being said despite some reservations about the service at breakfast in particular, the staff and service were generally good. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and felt we got value for money and would be happy to stay there again.

I was fortunate in getting an upgrade which was much appreciated.

The room was spacious & very clean with underfloor heating in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable too.

Ainslie shops are a short walk - they have an IGA, bakery, bottleshop, cafe/small local bar with nice food & newsagent - Dickson Chinatown also is not far though you need a car.

The location is close to the CBD.

Reception is friendly & efficient.

I will stay again.

Nothing like the picture on the web site. Very small cramped room. Refurbished it said but when, bathroom cramped and the shower had black mould. OK bed, bad TV. Overall very expensive for what we got, won't go back.

Room Tip: Deluxe or nothing.

Dear valued guest. Our records indicate that you booked three persons ( all adults) into a standard room at a special prices of $174. We believe that you have stayed with us previously in one of our deluxe or premium rooms, which are much larger, and would have accommodated your party comfortably. In regard to the mould issue - when heat lamps in the bathrooms are not used, or the door is left closed after a guest showers, we do sometimes have problems with discolouration of the grout, We apologise for this and are taking steps to address the issue. The handful of bathrooms, where this problem occasionally arises, are to be regrouted with a silicone based grout.
We do not understand your comment about "bad TV". All TV's are flat screen digital LCD's with access to Foxtel. All beds are new and of an excellent quality.
We would ask you to consider staying with us again and assure you of our commitment to superior service and accommodation.
With regards - Guest Relations Team
