Owner description: Welcome to Namadgi National Park. Named after the Aboriginal word for the mountain ranges in the south-west of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Namadgi National Park was declared in 1984. The park covers over 106,095 hectares of the ACT and contains more than 160 kilometres of marked walking trails. In Namadgi National Park you can experience Aboriginal and European history, beautiful camping sites, an abundance of native wildlife and many bushwalking trails through a range of unique natural environments. Namadgi National Park is also the beginning of the Australian Alps Walking track which starts at the Namadgi Visitor Centre and snakes its way through the Australian Alps. The track end at Walhalla in Victoria after a total of 655 kilometres.

“Good and always getting better”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

I visit for walks and they are getting better year by year; thanks ACT government. The walk up from Corin Dam is great; better since the improvements. Mount Tennent is also a good walk; take care though as the map of the area is out of date as tracks have been re-aligned. The Yankee Hat area is a great place to see huge mobs of kangaroos; always a winner with foreign tourists. Another bonus, the Yankee Hat road includes two shallow fords over creeks...a "soft" outback experience for people new to such roads. The drive out to Mount Ginnini along the Mount Franklin Road is very scenic; but be prepared for a narrow dirt road that has a few corners with limited visibility of oncoming traffic (not that there is usually much but a fast moving 4WD up there is all it would take!). As others have noted, compared to Kosciuszko National Park, Namadgi is an unheralded treasure.

We loved our visit to Namadgi National Park and would have planned to spend more time there if we had known how good it was.

“Namadgi National Park”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

This park has been rebuilt after the 2003 bushfires wiped it out. I think it is even better now, though, with great scenic walks and drives and several picnic areas, some with barbecues. See the wildlife - kangaroos, emus, birdlike and waterbirds. Frogs too and huge eucalypts. Just love it.

“Nature - fauna and flora”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Great spot for a walk, run or bike ride and only a short drive south of the city. The park is full of lots of Australian fauna and flora and even some ancient rock art.
