Rydges Capital Hill Canberra

Reviewed December 28, 2012

I was traveling with my husband & our boys 4yrs & 2yrs.

* Staff were very friendly & helpful.
* The cold water tap in the basin leaked.
* There was only 1 single hook in the bathroom on the back of the door - where were the other 3 towels to be hung?
* The toilet seat was the wrong size & shape for the loo & uncomfortable to sit on.
* The TV remote was temperamental, worked when it wanted too & not on the other occasions.
* Wooden furniture in the room was in poor condition.
* Breakfast was a disaster. Food should not take 45min to be replenished & they really need blinds on the window because we sat at the only vacant table which was right in the sun next to the window & the glare was so bright you could barley open your eyes & we nearly melted from the heat.
* Pool is advertised as heated but was as cold as ice.

The hotel was ok for one night & the amount of time we were there, but I wouldn't have wanted to be there much longer.

Check in fast and freindly. Elevator is pokey and overused by staff. Lobby is dining room and a generally loud mess. Don't bother eating here there are too many other eateries in the area. Rooms small but clean and renovated. Loud drunks in street and parking lot on weekend.

Stayed here in December for 2 nights for business purposes. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff - without asking we were upgraded to executive suite - the room was great, very clean and spacious. As other travelers and previously commented the rooms could do with some updating. However they were very clean and beds comfy and shower was great with no lack of hot water.

It is a very good location - easy walk to Manuka, where there are some great eating places etc.

Secure undercover parking available reasonably priced at $12- per night.

Stayed there for 8 nights while on business. The hotel service and room cleanliness is fine. The location is excellent and the place seems safe. It is 7 minutes walk to Manuka, which has excellent restaurant, shopping, bars, movies, etc. The place looks dated and is starting to feel out of time and a little work. It could use some updating.

Thank you for your recent review, it was very pleasing to hear you found the hotel to be in an excellent location close to Manuka, which does have everything for the business traveller, great shopping, restaurants & bars all just a short stroll away. We are excited to say that the hotel is currently undergoing a light refurbishment to update the room’s decor, we do hope to get the chance to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future to have a look.

Thanks again.

I stay in Canberra frequently but never here before or again. It is now 10.30pm and loud music beats outside the room from a function. Plates dirty at breakfast and food cold. Nice pool and reception staff helpful. But this is 3 star at the most. And I wish the noise would stop so we could get to sleep! Early start tomorrow. Maybe the inside rooms could be double glazed

Usually we classify this type of hotel beyond our means but with a scoopon voucher we received an upgrade to a king room with spa, a very satisfying bottle of wine and cooked breakfast each day. The most impressive feature was the friendly helpful attitude of ALL the staff. Nothing was a problem for them. The only thing which was a little below par was the pizza we purchased as a light meal on the Saturday night. A great locality for all sightseeing.

This hotel would have been amazing in the 90s (or 70s) or whenever it was built.
Its a strange place, huge open spaces, enormous rooms with no apparent reason for them being so large, aged old furniture.
It has a nice large pool, perfect for lap swimming but them charge around $8 to use the gym.
The gym is better than many hotel gyms, but still suffers from aged equipment and not enough of it. I did enjoy the sauna.

The breakfast was limited quality, understaffed and limited range.

One big thing to know is that Manuka is just 300metres down the road, come out of the hotel and turn left and keep walking for about 10 minutes and you will find a huge number of food outlets, with great quality food.
