This is a nice hotel from which to enjoy Canberra. It is in a very pleasant location within walking distance of Manuka shops and the National Gallery. The rooms are large, clean and spacious, with lots of pillows on the beds. Service was fine, and breakfast was okay for this class of hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the pretty surrounding suburbs.

Overall the impression of this hotel is age, with the insides seeming dated and older. However unlike many hotels, this does not mean rundown. Overall the hotel is perfectly adequate - breakfast was ok without being great, the room was run of the mill, the facilities good enough. There aren't really any strikes against the hotel, but there weren't really any positives. Probably better for business trips than for a couple for that reason.

We value your comments and thank you for taking the time to do so. Our hotel is a little dated, but we endeavour to make sure that our hotel is clean, comfortable and most importantly friendly and helpful.

We are constantly upgrading the hotel, and hopefully will be renovating in the near future. We do love that the beautiful Manuka is a short stroll down the road for a quieter and more relaxing stay.

Hope to see you back again soon.

Quality but not stuffy. Great restaurant serving a really nice breakfast in a pleasant atmoshere. Undercover carpark is surpisingly spacious. Excellent location if you have a car but it is on the other side of the bridge to Canberra city centre if you don't. This is my favourite place to stay in Canberra.

On our arrival at the hotel we were lucky enough to be given an upgrade. I'm sure the 'standard' rooms were not so good, but we really liked the spaciousness of the room. The bed was very comfortable, the spa was fantastic and the shower was like there was unlimited supply of water... like being under a hot waterfall. Lovely relaxing spaces. The staff were friendly. The hotel is close (within walking distance) to a number of attractions, Lake Burley Griffin and great restaurants. The decor was a little tired looking in the room, but I'd definitely go back again if I was staying in Canberra.

We booked this with one day's notice to catch the last day of an exhibition at the National Art Gallery. We are Rydeges Priority Guest members and chose a package option which included full buffet breakfast for 4 as well as tickets to Questacon and the zoo. The king bed was fabulous and I have to say I slept so much more soundly here than in most hotels I have stayed at. The fold out sofa bed for the kids was made up - I would have preferred to be able to request an additional rollaway or something so they didn't have to share, but they seemed to sleep pretty soundly. The breakfast was A+++!

The only drawback was how cold the lobby and general areas of the hotel are. Luckily, the room had its own heaters and air-conditioner, so didn't affect us too much. We chose to get room service for dinner partly because of the cold in the dining area, but the food was fabulous and we were warm in our room. (I would highly recommend the Butter Chicken!) The room felt quite spacious and had nice high ceilings. Our room was "internal" in the sense that it had sliding doors opening onto the beautiful at atrium-style garden with sounds of trickling water. This was quite nice, although the light coming around the curtains all night was a bit annoying.

We spent the afternoon at Questacon and felt we got great value for money on the package - entry for a family of 4 would have been about $60 here. We haven't used the zoo tickets yet, but they are valid for another 3 months in any case.

If the furniture was updated, and the lobby kept at a more inviting temp, I would happily give this 5/5.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. It’s a great option to be apart of the Rydges Priority Guest Club, there are some great perks that come along with it.

The heating has now been turned on in the Hotel (just in time for winter) and is more comfortable in the lobby and restaurant areas. The “Dream Beds” in the room are extremely comfortable and we are delighted to hear that you had a comfortable sleep.

I will be happy to pass on to our Chef your remarks regarding the Butter Chicken, feedback is very important to all of us here at Rydges Capital Hill.

We hope to see you soon when you’re back in Canberra.

Thankyou for taking the time to comment.

My daughter and I travelled to Canberra for the Renaissance Exhibition at the NGA and selected this hotel for its proximity to the gallery. We were disappointed that it was in the middle of the business district and there was nothing around it except offices and more hotels. However, as we were only up there for 2 nights, we didn't even miss the shops. The hotel had all we needed for a great stay. The breakfast buffet was what you would expect, no better or worse than I have had in other places and added to the room bill when we booked, quite reasonably priced. We had room service dinner the night we arrived as our plane from Melbourne was delayed. The meal was lovely and the room service waiter, quite pleasant. Gallery on Saturday and into the bar when we got back. Lovely barman who was quite accommodating with our cocktail order (we couldn't work out what we wanted as we are not big drinkers). Dinner in the restaurant that night was great. Steak was wonderful and service was attentive without being overbearing.
Desk staff was fabulous. Couldn't have asked for more.

We stayed at this hotel on Good Friday, just for one night. I was going to check out the Renaissance exhibition and the next day, we went to Questacon.
Reception was good, although service seemed to be very slow. Our "chocolates" did not arrive until I rang the reception (and it took half an hour to be delivered). Breakfast was included in the package, it was good enough (although the pancake machine was not working very well...I was looking forward to it).
Not so much good value for the money (we paid $199 for Easter package, which includes chocolates and breakfast), I think the room needs an upgrade.
Limited free parking spaces on site, unless you want to pay $12 to pay in the carpark or you can try parking on the street. You need to pay $8.80 to use the gym, but free to swim in the pool and utilise the spa (indoor pool is a plus, kids enjoy this).
Also, surcharges for paying with credit card.
The hotel is on the quiet side of Canberra.

We appreciate you taking the time to write your review and we do think it’s necessary for all types of feedback from our guests. I would like to apologise that your chocolates were not delivered to your room in time and you had to follow this up.

I will discuss your comments with the Food and Beverage Manager to sure that the Pancake Machine is working correctly and packages delivered to the rooms in a speedy manner.

The hotel is constantly having minor upgrades and in the future will be renovated.

Thank you for your feedback as we endeavour to provide excellent service and a comfortable stay.
