Like going back to college, but with some mod cons, like your sparkling white bathroom with heated floor. All very efficient, somewhat dull, while being bright, shiny and squeaky clean. Good value, handy location, great breakfast. Beware: the buffet is cleared (without warning) at 9:30 am sharp. Time for the beds to be upgraded and something done about the horrendous in-room energy saving lighting which turns human skin a sickly pale green. BYO lighting? Nevertheless, we're always drawn here in preference to any hotel in town.

I stayed at University House with my chorus group and would recommend it for anyone visiting Canberra. It's good value for central accommodation (I shared a twin room with another member of our group). Clean, comfortable and serviced everyday. Huge bath and heated floors in the bathroom. Travel light or ask for a ground floor room. Beautiful place to visit in autumn. Plenty of restaurants about 15 minutes walk away. Urban Food is a great cafe about 10 minutes walk. Film and Sound Archives museum is just five minutes away.

Room Tip: Try for a ground floor room or travel light - no lifts

The accommodation is essentially diggings for people visiting the Australian National University. I was there for work and had to carry a very large and heavy bag to and from my room for a week. However I was on the second floor, but there was no lift and I was quite sore and sorry after a week of wrestling my bag up stairs. The room itself was a reasonable size and clean.

The best feature is the excellent restaurant on campus. The menu and wine list were five star.

Room Tip: If you have heavy items ask for a ground floor room.

University House is in a charming and peaceful setting at the Australian National University. The accommodation is clean although the furniture and decor could do with an upgrade. The breakfasts are decent so you won't got hungry until lunch.

This is like checking into a 1950s style student dorm during the off-term - which would be fine in a quirky way if you were paying student dorm rates. For AUD 140, no breakfast I would, however, expect quite a little more. Also it really is close to nowhere other than the uni, so you're probably looking at taxi rates to get you places - it might just be cheaper elsewhere. It's also impossible to close the doors (in wing A) without slamming them - I tried, although everyone else seemed to have given up on it.

This was a weekend stay. I had a room and breakfast package. Having stayed in many places in Canberra, here I heard no traffic noise but still walking distance to the CBD. This building used to house student accommodation and has a charming atmosphere. It was pleasant to be amongst the leafy, University grounds with the autumn colours at their best. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. The room was located on the ground floor but had about 4 steps to climb. Something to consider if you have mobility issues. There are no lifts to upper floors. The room itself had a clean smell to it but not overpowering. There was a large living area, balcony, bedroom and modern bathroom. The furniture suited the period of the building. The bed was comfortable and had an electric blanket and the pillows looked new. Absolute best thing was the heated bathroom floor. Heaven! Breakfast was buffet style in The Fellows Cafe. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely return. I would rather stay here than have the ultra modern sterile room experience.

Room Tip: They have a variety of room options to suit your needs. Call to discuss.
