“Revealing and insightful panoramas”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

The whole point of this tower for me was to get a clear picture of the many aspects of Canberra from a great height.

I had spent some time wandering around Canberra with my partner who had spent many years working there. It is a little ovewhelming trying to process so much information and history when you are at eye level, as it were.

The panoramic views from the Telstra tower afforded an opportunity to clarify and codify information gleaned from the many hours at street level. It helped to make sense of the symmetry, architecture and provenance of the place. The tower afforded a unique bird's eye perspective of the many and varied facets of this fascinating city.

Wonderful!

“What a view”

Worth the drive up the hill to see the view from the top of the Telstra Tower - to see Canberra and surrounding areas spread out below - Snow capped mountains in winter possible.

Great views across the lake and to the north and west - gives you an entirely different perspective of Canberra. But this sort of towe is a bit outdated I feel.

“Is that it?”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

The Telstra Tower in Canberra looked tired, unattractive, and the less said about the service the better. The ticket officer accepted our family price ticket of $17 without a word. The only effort she made was to move the contents of her lunch slightly aside to allow space for the metal coins she placed on the counter, which, we assumed, would grant us entrance to the tower itself. The observation deck area was very unwelcoming. There was a small tourist shop which was untidy enough to give the impression that it was either in the process of either closing down or taking on new stock. The adjoining cafe was very limited and the one person in attendance was under pressure to serve the much over-priced food and drinks to her customers. The view of Canberra was good, as expected, but there was an additional charge of $2 for the privilege of using the mounted telescopes, and the stairwell between observation decks was not much different in look and smell than the back-end of a dodgy train station. On exiting, we made a brief stop to the telephony 'museum' on the ground floor, which was little more than a glass cabinet with a small variety of phones to represent the advancement in phone technology through the ages. All in all it was a very disappointing experience, although this seems to be par for the tourism course in Australia these days. We were 2 adults and 2 teenagers, and $33 paid for the entrance fee, 4 very small coffee and hot chocolate drinks, and 10 minutes at the Tesltra Tower which I would be hard-pressed to consider re-visiting.

“A view”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

The view from the Tower is fantastic. Unfortunately that is all there is. The shop is now closed as is the cafe and the revolving restaurant. Was you have exhausted the view there is nothing else yet the cost of a ticket remains the same. Even at peak time the car park was empty. Ours was the only car in the car park when we came out. You probably will get the same views from the picnic areas. Needs a complete revamp and operating strategy.
