The botanic gardens are a beautiful place to wander round - the rock gardens are my favourite although the rain forest is a close second. The cafe has changed hands - hudson's was always friendly and good food. Now it is a pie and hamburger joint with pretensions. manager is aggressive and rude. Do yourself a favour and take a Picnic instead - so many nice places for a lunch in the gardens - the cafe is not one of them.

Contains two thirds of all Australian plant species. Always something in bloom. A haven for birds. Be sure to visit the wonderful new (Nov 2013) Red Centre Garden consisting of plants from within 500km of Alice Springs. Experience many ecological areas in one visit e.g. Rainforest, Rock Garden, Sydney Basin, etc. Walk the Main Path if you only have an hour or so and you have a taste of everything. Dine at Floresco.

Thank you again Australian National Botanical Gardens for a lovely tranquil afternoon :)
The Australian National Botanical Gardens is one of my favourite places to visit in Canberra. It has an amazing array of plants and wildlife, including a rainforest walk and wet lands, where you may even see a Water Dragon or two if you are lucky. It's a great spot for a picnic or stop off at the café for a coffee (food is a bit pricey, but they make a good coffee).
You will have to pay parking, but the prices are reasonable and the profit as far as I know goes to the gardens. Garden entry is free!
It's a place I have loved for years and a place a will continue to return to in the future.

While only a few years old, this is an ambitious undertaking and illustrates the spirit of the nation. Be certain -- if never seeing a cork tree -- to visit the cork forest.

A family member suggested this so we went along. This is not a nice place do eat, menu is old and food tastes like canteen food.
Coffee is not that great either.
