The National Gallery is well worth a visit. It can be a bit confusing navigating oneself through the galleries, but it is very rewarding. Many, many different artistic styles are on display. Also, there is often a special exhibit, at a charge. The Turner exhibition is the most recent and was very interesting. There is an excellent shop with a wide variety of books, etc. The coffee shop provides a very good afternoon tea. If you are into art, then this is the place for you.

Excellent presentation of Turner's work, with a display of his trial washes, letting you get the idea of how he built up the colour washes to achieve an interpretation of light that few artists are able to capture. There was also the personal touch with the inclusion of Turner's small sketch pads he used while travelling.
Overall a beautifully displayed exhibition.

Apart from the Turner exhibition which I thought was first class I also thought that the rest of the Gallery was really well laid out and had some great exhibitions running. Lot's of space to stand back and admire and a great range from the more classical pieces to the ...well frankly...absurd. But that range is what its about. It's a must do.

The whole experience was interesting and would definitely recommend a visit, be early as the car park fills up!

Make sure you explore around, it is a bit of a maze. Don't miss the fog sculpture outside in the sculpture garden near the pond. (It is turned off and on, so it might be worth checking the time at the front information desk.)
