“Turner Exhibition”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

One of the exhibitions in a long time. Such a great interpreter of the UK and Europe at that time, late 1700s to mid 1800s

“One of Canberra's best”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Most of Canberra's major institutions have a café, bistro or restaurant and this is one of Canberra's best. Beautiful hot food, and plenty of salads and mammoth rolls/pannini/Turkish bread sandwiches. Always crowded, but there's a big outdoor space (mind the magpies) overlooking the lake. Don't order a large flat white unless you actually want a bowl of coffee.

“On your list of second tier attractions”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

The gallery is nice enough but perhaps worth visiting after you've exhausted Canberra's other offerings or if there is an interesting special exhibition. Nice, though small, sculpture garden. Lots of Lichtenstein's. Good Asian collection.

“Turner Exhibition wonderful”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Had a great morning visiting the Turner Exhibition and just loved it. I found the audio-guide very good with extra information from the written information boards. The paintings and the way they were displayed was excellent. I have been to the Gallery before and seen their permanent exhibits which I always enjoy, We had lunch at the cafe downstairs and the variety and quality of food was very good. The only negative is waiting for the gallery to open. We had 10am tickets and had to wait outside for about 15 mins as you are advised to arrive early. It was a bitterly cold, rainy Canberra morning and although under a roof it was very cold and he wind tunneled through. The staff were all inside walking around watching us, maybe the doors could be opened so patrons can wait inside rather than be so exposed while waiting.

“Turner exhibition fabulous”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The national gallery has put on a fabulous Turner exhibition. I went to an earlier Turner exhibition here back in 1996, and it was wonderful to see many of the same paintings on display, and some new ones. The best thing about the exhibition though was the amazing tour guide we had. I think the guides are volunteers and the lady we had provided a wealth of information about many of the paintings and took us on a journey of turners life through his works. Do try to get on a tour if you can. There is a radio earpiece so that it is easy to hear the guide even in a large group.
